S FOCTBALL Last August 20, after getting the feel of a very hot summer, the Moon Township Tigers began to drill for a very disastrous football season. The team spent the first week of strenuous work at home, Then under the capable guidance of Mr. Siegman and his assistants, Mr. Hanley and Mr. Meider, and with "Bob" john' ston, the elected captain, the team traveled to West Liberty State Teachers College for another week of con- centrated gridiron work before they faced one of the toughest schedules in Moon's football history. The Tigers opened their '48 season with a very tough team from Ambridge, and as the final whistle blew it saw Moon on the short end of a 45 to O score. The following Saturday Hopewell journeyed to Moon and handed the Tigers their second defeat by the score of 12 to O. Findlay then took Moon by the score of 26 to 7. The following Saturday, Oliver trounced Moon by the score of 14 to O. Next on a mud-soaked field the Tigers lost a hardffeught game to Sewiekley by the score of 13 to 7, after which the Tigers played their closest rivals, Coraopolis, and this game ended 19 to 0 with Cory on the long end. Neville Island journeyed to Moon, but this tilt ended in a O to 0 score. Slightly encouraged the Moon team went to North Fayette only to lose a heartfbreaker by the score of 7 to 6. However, our doldrums were not yet complete for we were yet to lose to Bessemer and Avonworth both by the scores of 33 to O. Thus ended, as stated before, a very disastrous season. S2 's H Ph : - BASKETBALL The Moon Twp. '4Sf'49 basketball season was quite a successful one with a total of eleven victories and nine defeats. This year our teams coached by Mr. Hanley and Mr. Meider, were strong contenders for the Section XV titleg but after the league action got under way, we found our close rival, Findlay in the top spot. Among Moon's eleven victories there were two wins over our closest rival-Coraopolis. When the season first began, Mr. Hanley had to build his team around three former lettermen: Joe Tesla, Merle Von Stein, and Norman Bowne, who proved the main offensive threats during this past season. Most of us will remember the sizzling setfshots that Joe would put through the hoop during each game. Joe was also highfscorer for the year with a total of 247 points. Next, was Merle, one of our stellar forwards, who was a dependable player under the backboards, and who with his fancy twofhand layfup shots, could be ranked among the best. After Merle came Norman, another of our dependable guards, with his fancy onefhand shots, and last but not least were Jerry Hughes and jerry Goss who also did some very fine basketball playing. Since the junior and sophomore replacements looked very promising, Moon's future can be considered very bright. JUNIOR HIGH BASKETBALL Although the Junior High School basketball team didn t enjoy 1 particularly successful season Mr Nes bit the coach of the team is doing a fine job in promoting Good sportsmanship and also in teaching the funda mentals of basketball The junior hi h boys practiced before school in the morning and there were usually about fifty boys in attendance JUNIOR HIGH CHEERLEADERS Did you see those Junior High Cheerleaders this YCIF7 If you didn t you missed 1 preview of the m l boosters of the future The girls who led the che in oru Kabant urns Patty Mupel und Mary Lou Blrwell of the seventh grade Right now Miss King is interested in getting uniforms for the irls for next year BROADWAY PHARMACY Benjamm Cutts Prop l1lO lilth Axcnue Phone 407 Corxopoli P 41 D l ' H I c c . .
