Esne 'c ' t Q'-'r NI.t..II.h, as we -ee it today. On Friday, April 12, 1940, Montrose students received their beautiful new high school building. Yes, the school we now work in was a big thing in 10-10-orily sixteen years agol And those who planned it believed that they had provided more than enough room to take care of future growth for many years. They could not foresee the growth that has promoted NI.C.H.S. to a NAA school this year and crowded the halls and classrooms again. Once more the school is building to provide more room for the educational program that it offers. New M.C.ll.S. was opened for inspection that Friday night sixteen years ago. and the people of Montrose were tand still arelit pleased with their new quarter of a million dollar school. Some of the things that the new building made possible for the first time in Montrose were new classes such as homemaking and more activities. The first play produced on the stage of the combination gymnasium-auditorium was 4'Seven Sistersn directed by Miss LaVerne Clark. This stage eliminated the need to rent the Fox Theatre or some other auditorium to present school plays. Aerial view of the high school buildings and grounds. leak-1.-Q.. I 'L lag.-

,,- 4 I iNl.C.H.S. Agrivult uri- Building To the north end of the main school building stands a cinder block structure known as the Magi' or agriculture building. Here students of vocational agriculture learn better farming methods, study livestock and crops, and learn such practical arts as welding for farm mechanics. The ag building houses a large classroom and one of the best equipped shop laboratories in Colorado. The students themselves added many of the finishing touches, such as storage cupboards and tool racks when the building was first used in the year of 1948-1949. The white building to the west of the big schoolhouse is used for a great many activities such 'as a classroom for physical education, a practice shed for the wrestlers, meeting hall for school organizations, housing for a Homecoming float, or a place to build scenery for a new play. This building is officially known as the athletic building. but is commonly called the uwrestling shedf, A building of multiple usevthe athletic shed. -5.
