CAPTAIN DA VIS Captain Donald C. Davis assumed com- mand of USS MONTROSE fAFA-2l2l an 3 June Woo, in San Diego, California. He relinquished his command 24 June i967 at the Naval Station, Subic Bay, Republic of Philippines. Captain Donald C. Davis, was graduated from the Naval Academy, and commissioned an Ensign in June l943. Served as anti- aircraft gunnery division officer aboard the USS MOBILE CCL-o3l in the Racific and participated in nine major campaigns. ln November of l944, Captain Davis received orders to flight training in Corpus Christi and in May of l946, he received his Navy Wings and was designated a Naval Aviator. Following flight training, Captain Davis served in several squadrons including VF 5l, the Navy's first operational jet squadron. At the start of the Korean War,Captain Davis's squadron was sent from the Mediterranean to Korea where he flew Sl combat missions and won two air Medals. ln W52, Captain Davis was ordered to Hollis Air Force Base where he served as an exchange officer, training Air Force F86 pilots for combat missions in Korea. Following his assignment with the Air Farce, Captain Davis served with several Naval Air Units, and in l957, he became Comnnanaing Officer of VF-2l l. He commanded this squadron during a deployment to the Western Facific aboard the attack carrier USS MIDWAY. Captain Davis has since received a variety of assignments afloat and ashore including tour of duty as an Aide and Special Assistant to the Under Secretary of the Navy. ln Wei, was ordered to the Naval War College, Newport, Rhode Island, where he completed tne Serif - Course in Naval Warfare. ln February of l962 he became Commander of Carrier Air Sr FIVE. While serving as Air Group Commander, he made a South American transit :mi aboard the USS CONSTELLATION and a deployment to the Western Facific aboard tae att carrier USS TICONDEROGA. Rrior to assuming command of MONTROSE, Captain Davis served as the Seri r Froiect Officer for the F-ill Aircraft in the Air Force System Command. Fir the F-l ll Rroiect, Captain Davis was recently awarded the Legion of Merit. Captain Davis, son of Mr. and Mrs. Randel N. Davis of Brool4field,Misso. i s ri. in New Boston, Missouri.
