Ill Ke1th Clark Lynda Folkers Eldon Covlngton Jerry Schnelter Loren D1rks Bob Ganfleld Ke1th Culmore Paul H1nr1chs Bob Payne Tom Vesey, and Beverly Hanken all Jolned us IU t1me to go on our famous freshman hayrldes KOn those we had the senmors beatll Thms also was the year we had to dec1de whether to take algebra or general math Of course we had a l1ttle asslstance mn the form of a test Then too, there was our class PICDIC where a few gxrls had the m1sfortune of fall1n IH the r1ver and John Shover scurr1ed up the h1ll to help them after thex were out' ln our sophomore xear those who chose bmology found out all about the 1n sldes of a frog and the laws of nature from Jess Some who were brave enough to take geometrx found It really wasn't so bad and the glrls d1dn't mlnd It at all w1th Nlr I-leyerdahl as teacher To us as sophomores was ass1gned the dutx of decoratmg the front of the school for llomecomxng and havlng a l1vely sence of humor we put lp a coffln to portray the death of the opponent Among the newcomers th1s year were Nancx Nleader Sandra Bodenhoffer Pete Hasler Jerry Hoffman Bob Marsh Dolores Lamphler and of course there was our new world hlstorx teacher Mr Deppe who was lucky enough to have our class three years IU successlon ln the fall of 1954 the Class of 56 began 1ts last two and buslest years The work and fun started r1ght out w1th the Jumor class play Green Valley followed by magazme sales and ended w1th the g1v1ng of Jumor senmor A lot of us d1dn't know what mt vtas to really work for a cause but we surely found dec1d1ng on a theme we went to work fast and fur1ous A few days before the deadlmne we saw our 1deas turn 1nto real1t1es and we knew we had accompllshed what we a1med for Davy Jones' Lo ker ' w1th 1ts bubbles sea horses and mermamds was a b1g success wh1ch we won't forget for a long t1me Scattered among all these b1g events were the thrmll of havmg our fellows play varslty basketball and football the U 234s and U 2355 of chem1stry class the Amer1can hlstory study gu1des and naturally, new add1t1ons to our class These lncluded Marge Dandl Aletha Powers Patr1c1a S1mmons Fred Mardorf Jane Slmmons Roger Hearn Karen Freese and Kelth Welch who returned to graduate w1th the class he started w1th mn k1ndergarten F1nally the Class of 1956 had made It to the top After twelve years of work1ng and havmg so much fun, they were gomg on the flnal year W1th the thought mn our mlnds that th1s would be the last t1me for everythmg contests M Club banquet basketball and football games we all str1ved to make each event the best Everyone w1ll remember Jan's famous phrase, Let s have a partyl, an how glad we were when she moved 1nto her new home with 1ts 'rec' room Then, too there was the bus1ness of havlng our p1ctures taken and wr1t1ng messages on them to exchange w1th our classmates It was more fun Just to s1t back and watch the Jumors worry over Junior semor whlle all we had to do was try to fmd all the secrets And even though we had plans and preparatmons to make for the new type of graduat1on to be held outdoors we enjoyed the end of the year w1th 1ts flurry of act1v1t1es Now as we look back and th1nk of all the many many thlngs we've done to gether as fr1ends and classmates we're a b1t sad we have to leave lt all But we're look1ng 1nto the future too full of plans to go on to a varlety of new and challenglng 3Ct1V1t18S And when we have gone leaving another class 1n the front rows of the aud1tor1um we w1ll always remember the best years the years at dear old Mont1 H1gh l I ' I ' I .
