There were nine letterrnen and one transfr lettrman to form the nucleus of the team. The hovs had to learn a new stvle of plav. changing from the 1'-formation and the hox svstem to the Single Wang and Short Punt formations. Thev soon Caught on with Rox' D. as spinhack. Paul S. as winghaclc. Dean XY. as tailhaclc. with Gerdes and Slcellev alternating as hloclcing hacks. Tn the first game lVIonti druhhed the Wfilson reserves I2-0. K Thev folowed this up with a hard fought 6-1 win over Man- :hester. In the next game Nlonti plaved a strong Nlarion team and came our on the short end of the score 20-0. The Panthers were a hit fatigued from their preceding weeIc's worlc for thex' lost a thriller to Independence ln' one point. I5-ll. Again lVIonti hit a strong team, this time Tipton who :eored 33 points in the first half hut was lmdlv outplaved hx' a revived Panther squad in the second Inlf. This was a moral victorv for the Panthers although thev lost 40-19. Gerald lVIavherrv proved to he one touchdown Inu good as lVIonti lost to Nlaquolceta I-I-6, Smarting from three losses. the lwovs came lwaclc and Inter- allv ran Vfest Union off the Iield as Ijaulie Schneider made Iour touchdowns. The final score was W-0. Then came the important game with Anamosa. This was the last game for the seniors and the hovs ended it in glorious fashion as thev hung a 26-0 loss on Anamosa with Schneider again going for four touchdowns. At the end of the seafon Paul Schneider was elected hon- orarv captain and Paul. Rodnev Rielcen. Boh Guvari. and Roi' Driehelhis were elected to the Xvamac second team.
