'33- '-.N V 154, K ' Ill: If If 4- If If I ,z ,z 2, 1 1 ,J 2 ,J 41 li , I If f ' 1' ' Glass ffzsfary It was in 1942 that we started our first year of school Part of us had our grammar grade education as Busuck and part of us here at Monticello The ones from Busiclc came herein 1949 to loin with the others in the eighth grade Thirty six students entered their first year of high school in 1950 Mr Howard Jones was our homeroom teacher Our class officers for the freshman year were President Otis Green Vice President Nelda Cobb Secretary Sara Richardson and Treasurer Barbara Roach When our sophomore year came we had an enrollment of twenty nine Our teacher this year was Mrs Carolyn Setzer Under her direction we pre sented our night club The Dew Drop Inn for the first time The ones chosen for the offices in our sophomore year were President Harry Page Vice Pres: dent Don Faucette Secretary Carolyn Briggs and Treasurer Christine Hatcher Twenty five excited girls and boys entered their gunior year in 1952 Our class sponsor this year was Mr Howard Jones Mrs June Byrd was director we got our class rings and we were a group of happy students We entertained the seniors at the Plantation Supper Club Our officers for this year were Pres: dent Peggy Bowman Vice President Barbara Roach Secretary Sara Richard son Treasurer Nelda Cobb Our marshals were Peggy Bowman Chief Sara Richardson Barbara Roach Harry Page and Virginia Summers At last we came to our senior year twenty four students enrolling for their last year Student leaders for this year were President Harry Page Vice Press dent Barbara Roach Secretary Sara Richardson Treasurer Carolyn Briggs Our Senior sponsor was Mrs Georgia Stafford Carolyn Briggs and Barbara Poach were elected as editors of the School newspaper THE STAR and the school annual THE MON ECHO respectively Mr Bill Sills served as advisor for these publications We all wish to thank our parents and teachers not overlooking anyone for the encouragement they gave us To Mr F W Reid our principal and Mrs Stafford, we express our deepest appreciation for their help in our last year of high school VIRGINIA SUMMERS Historian - 2 ' 1 ' 1 ' ' 1 1 1 1 1 1 I 1 - - - i 1 ' - 11 11 . - 1 1 - : 1 . This was the year , . 1 1 ' ' 1 1 1 ' - 1 1 - 1 ' 1 I I I ' I n . . 1 r ' 1 1 ' '- 1 1 1 ' 1 1 ' - X I I ' - I . - u . . . 1 1 . . . . , , . 611155 Praplzecy While relaxed on the sofa by the warm fire listening to the whistling wind and the snow softly falling I fell asleep and off into a dream of tomorrow I saw my classmates in I964 ten years after graduation I was proud that Peggy Bowman and Carolyn Briggs had reached their one ambition nursing at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore Marilyn Clapp seemed happy as ever keeping house for her husband and working She told me that Peggy Pritchett has an office 'ob in Washington I was surprised to hear that Harry Page was teaching Aeronautics here in Guilford County Schools Geraldine Key was working at Jefferson in Greensboro and was playing on the basketball team there Ginger Summers and Jeannette Farmer were also working as secretaries in Greensboro at the Mayos office As I always thought Barbara Roach was making good of her Primary Teachers Degree in Reidville where she was living Don Faucette was business manager for the Daily News in Greensboro where his own sweet wife Sara Richardson was secretary As I turned on my radio I heard that Joan Wagoner was to hold a song concert here in Greensboro tomorrow night Special guests were to be some old classmates Louise Wyrick and Mollie Boggs who were now librarians at the Otis Green was manager of a large Drive In Theater in New York I learned that some old classmates were living in Burlington N C Annie Cook was doing public work there I was much surprised to hear that J W Buslck and Gene Brown were lawyers and were still waiting for the right girls Unexpectedly I ran into Betty Rumley in Greensboro She was working as a beautnclan Marvin Johnson was driving a transfer truck for McLean Truck ing Company From a report in the newspaper I gathered that Richard Apples fast driving had won him his position as a famous Hell Driver Ann Gordon was living in Florida with her husband who was a preacher I guess Nancy Mitchell really likes her lob at Western Electric in Greensboro She has been working there since she finished school I saw myself working an Greensboro also and living near by It was sur prrsxng to know that so many had settled so close together but yet some had roamed off to far away places When I suddenly awoke it was hard for me to convince myself that we were lust sentors and were still striving hard to be Graduates of '54' VELMA CHRISMON Class Prophet , , . , . , . , , . . . . , . , , . . . .. , . , f I . . .
