CLASS HISTORY We the class of mneteen hundred flfty one would llke to go back twelve years to remmxscence We started out together ln 1939 excxted but a l1ttle scared M1s LaRue was our teacher and we shall never forget her kmdness and gentleness Durmg the next sur years we worked and played together gaxmng new students and los1ng some of the old ones ln the elghth grade we were happy to welcome new students from Busxck and we all soon became frxends Eagerly we entered hxgh school We th1rty three exc1ted freshmen felt very grown up Mrs W1ll1e Wagoner was our home room teacher Offxcers for the year were as follows presldent Peggy Lambeth v1ce presmdent Bobby Sm1th secretary Betty Wagoner treasurer John Jones Peggy Lambeth and John Jones were chosen to represent our class in the May Day program Dol phme Cobb was elected presxdent of the newly orgamzed F H A Smce we had found ourselves in our freshmen year we came back as determmed sophomores Our enrollment had dropped from thlrty three to twenty four Thls year we chose to lead our class Marcus Faucette presldent Bobby Sm1th v1ce presldent Peggy Lambeth secretary and John Jones treasurer Mrs Herbert Chappel was our teacher and we turned to her for everythmg She was especlally loved by the glrls who w11l never forget our Mother Daughter Tea under her superv1s1on Elame Weadon w1th Pete Mabe represented our class 1n the May Day At last we were Jumors w1th work and more work to do' Bobby Sm1th recelved the top honor of presxdent Our other offlcers were v1ce presldent Helen Jones secretary Peggy Lambeth and treasurer John Jones Mlss L1lly Wmn was our teacher We shall always remember her gentle ways unself1shness and love for us all We outsold the semors xn the magazme campa1gn Ela1ne Weadon was hxgh salesman Peggy Lambeth and Bobby Smith were chosen to represent our class on the annual staff We were happy to select our class rmgs and could hardly walt to recerve them Our Jumor play was another unforgetable event of our Jumor year We owe 1ts success to Mr Jenk1ns our d1rector As our May Day attendants we chose Geraldme Bus1ck Bobby Sm1th Peggy Lambeth and John Jones In the sprmg lt was our duty and pr1v1lege to entertam the sen1ors at the annual .Tumor Semor Banquet We gave It at Bl1ss s Restaurant The Easter theme was carrxed 1n our program and decoratlon We thought everyone looked especlally nice m evemng clothes and we enjoyed the food and games lmmensely Dur1ng the commencement fest1v1t1es our marshals were Marlan Hopklns ch1ef asslsted by Elame Weadon Helen Jones Jo Soyars Dolphme Cobb and Peggy Lambeth Dur1ng the summer of fxfty came the news that Mr Jenk1ns was leavmg and Mr B U Wlute was to take h1s place After eleven years of hard work and good tlmes we entered Montlcello Hlgh School for the last year Mrs Joe Hard1e Jr was our teacher Mr Whxte was new to us but lt d1dn t take long for us to get acqua1nted Offlcers for th1s last year were presldent Marcus Faucette v1ce pres1 dent Bobby Sm1th secretary Dolphme Cobb and treasurer John Jones Our class by th1s t1me had dropped to twenty one and when John Joxned the mar1nes we had only twenty For ed1tor of our school paper we chose Bobby Sm1th A paper for every s1x weeks was lssued Peggy Lambeth was chosen to edxt the school annual w1th many other members of the class elected to perform var1ous other dut1es 1n mak1ng up the annual For our sen1or play a three act farce comedy Let me out of Here was selected w1th flVe boys and fxve g1rls tak1ng part Marcus Faucette and Thelma Haynes were unforgetable as the colored elevator boy and colored ma1d Mrs Hardxe was our faxthful d1rector For our May Day Program Peggy Lambeth was chosen Queen and Laery Cooke Kmg Dolph1ne Cobb was elected ma1d of honor and Betty Wagoner was the selected ma1d of honor The hxghest honors went to Marlan Hopkms Valed1ctor1an and Elame Weadon Salutor1an Elame Weadon recelved the D A R Good C1t1zensh1p Award w1th the Cwxtan Award gomg to Peggy Lambeth The Jumors gave us a wonderful tlme at the Jumor sen1or banquet It was an event that w1ll always rema1n w1th us We all reallzed that 1n a few weeks we would leave our dear old school as students Th1s made us all sad but as we look back we feel as rf we have accompllshed somethmg We feel that from our class were some of the best students athletes, and c1t1zens and our hearts w1ll always be here at Montlcello no matter where we go . . . - - Q 1 1 ' 9 , . , .
