Some of the major subiects studied by students in Mr. Horace Le- lands physics classes are electronics, sound, light, heat, electricity, and nu- clear physics. An essential part ol train- ing in physics is the development of an alert, inquiring mind and a ready hand, The students learn how to go about solv- ing a problem or about making some- thing that worlcs. A major emphasis is on the development of the ability of the stu- dent to write his own proofs and also to improve his thinking in non-mathematical situations. The statements that make up geometry begin with assumptions, defini' tions, and undefined terms. These lead to proofs of theorems and of constructions.
