Sophomore Girl Reserves OFFICERS: President, Jo Ann Rader, Vice-President, Mary Jane Harrington, Secretary, Betty Paynterg Treasurer, Evelyn Russellg Publicity Superintendent, Frances Lee Matheny. FACULTY ADVISER: Mis Harriet Skaggs. In 1931 because of the crowded conditions of the Senior Girl Reserves whose sponsor was Mrs. Wilkinson, -it was decided to organize a younger club. The result of this organiza- tion was The Sophomore Girl Reserves, whose first sponsor was Miss Mary Baxter Cun- ningham. This club now draws its members from the Freshman and Sophomore classes. The membexship is by invitation only. The club is a member of the National Y. W. C. A. Girl Reserves, a division of the Young Women's Christian Association, organized in Montgomery High School in 1926, is one of the oldest and most active clubs in school. Since 1928 it has been sponsored by Mrs. Wilkinson. The purpose of Girl Reserves is to develop high school girls along the three-fold line of body, mind, and spirit. Consequently, the yearls work is built around spiritual, mental, and social activities. The weekly meetings with programs planned and executed by the girls aim to develop the mental and spiritual side. Each Thanksgiving and Christmas the club adopts a family for which it provides food, boys, and even articles of clothing. For the past eight years it has presenrted to the school a gift, ranging from special speakers brought in and all girl teas to gifts of a bulletin board, dictionary, a clock, and other articles for the use of the whole school. All money for these activities is earned by the girls through candy sales and other enterprises. For the physical side the club maintains a basketball team, which this year won the intra-mural trophy, and other athletic groups, and it also enjoys hikes and picnics. The chief social event of the group is the annual Spring formal dance, given this year in honor of St. Patrick's day. 7.-Q X Page Thirty nme

Wrightson, E. Hall C. Stallard, W. Absalom, T. J. Morrison, E. Vickers, R. McClellan, R. Fields, E. Mussetto. ORGANIZATION: In 1933 the Montgomery Hi-Y Club was first organized. Since that time it has become one of the outstanding organizations in Montgomery High School. PURPOSE: The purpose of the organization is to create, maintain, and extend through- out the school and community high standards of Christian character. MEMBERSHIP: Any young man student of the upper three classes in high school who subscribes to the stated purpose of this organization, and is accepted by a vote of the club is accepted for membership. PLATFORM: The platform is Clean Speech, Clean Sports, Clean Scholarship, and Clean Living. It was in this second plank that the Hi-Y basketball team, which enjoyed a very successful season, made such fine achievements. The main event of the year was the I-Ii-Y Bowery Dance, which proved to be a very successful affair. gi.- :L Page Forty- one
