Monterey vs Hollister October 20 Monterey play ed her second practlce game with Hol lrster one of our A section r1y als Monterey scored early ln the first period taking the ball straight down the field from the kick off Hol lrster did not take the oftensrye untrl the thlrd period With Monterey in the lead 1 6 Hollister started a yy hulwrnd of crrss crosses and passes The game ended in Hollister s fay or 33 19 Monterey vs Gilroy October 27 Monterey met Gilroy champs of Santa Clara Valley in the second league game of the season Grlroy came with the reputa tion of having beaten many larger teams than Monterey They re tery ed the surprise of their lrfe yvhen Monterey defeated them 12 6 Monterey vs Pacific Grove B Section Championship A record crowd witnessed the championship game November 10 yyhen Monterey shoyved Pacific Grove that she knows how to play football During the flrst quarter the game looked as though it would be scoreless but after the opening of the second quarter Monterey put over a touchdown Pacific Groye tied the score Just before the half ended on a recoy ered fumble In the second half Monterey came back strong putting over tyvo more touchdowns and was rn positron of scor mg again when the final whistle blew The game ended with a score of 19 6 rn fay or of Monterey Monterey vs Hollister C C A L Champlonshrp November 27 Monterey again met Hollister for the C C A L championship Hollister demonstrated her superiority by a 29 6 score RELATION OF ATHLETICS TO SCHOOL LIFE Ronrnr HLFBEL Coach This IS an era that rs marked by the growth in importance and content of actryrtres in Physical Educatron rn general and athletic ot thousands of field houses and gy mnaslums play grounds and sta drums Boys and girls are sent to school by then parents primarily to obtain an education and to become better fitted for life Athletics are and should ey er remain a contributory factor to this mam object of school tralnrng The qualities of determination will power per srstence and courage both phy srcal and moral can nowhere be better learned than on the athletrt fields The ability to summon all of one s forces physical mertal and moral to work together in smooth co ordination for the accomplishment of a given task and the initiative necessary to direct these forces are attributes yery strikingly dey eloped by athletrcs The marorrty of the states haye compulsory phy srcal education rn chools and rt ls becoming recognized as an important part of the educational plan With the dey elopment of athletics which affect so many rt rs doubtful rf any other agency rs today influencing the man ners and morals of our people as are the games which are contested on the playing fields of Amerrca All the students benefit by a well conducted program of athletics ,CM 1, Pg 5 , ' , . ca 91 ' ' , , ' ' - to , i u .
