Icy X' ON NN ,wx-53' A Message From fhe President: This issue of the Northerner, in common with all issues which have preceded it, is a record of the past. For most of those whose names and images within its covers its value, and the enjoyment de- rived from it, will increase as the academic year 1968-1969 becomes more and more remote from that of which we all will be a part at any given time. This is so because we all recognize that what we are so greatly depends upon what and where we have been. Consequently, we seek reminders of the past, often idealizing distant days and attrib- uting to them a richness of experience which in reality they might not have held. It is difficult to quarrel with our tendency to enhance the past, especially any segment of it of which we were vitally a part. Since college years are inescapably among the most vital of our lives, ideally they should be remembered with fondness and even as having had some splendor about them. It is my hope that you will have reason to so re- member 1968-1969. But even greater is my hope that as former Northern Montana College students you will look forward with the college while yet looking back on it. In keeping with the theme of this annual, I hope you will always be willing--even eager-- to continually join in taking "a new look at Northern. " To perform its mission, Northern must constantly look at itself with the conviction that it must con- stantly change, discarding that which is no longer pertinent, adopting that which becomes more per- tinent to the welfare of its students, and retaining that upon which change properly has no impact, You are now inescapably a part of the self of Northern. I urge you in the years ahead to help Northern become all that it is capable ofbecoming by taking "a new look" at that self. J. R. Throughout the year there have been a number of students con- tribute their time and talents toward the production of this book. However l wish to thank three students who helped during the entire year. They are Julie Poindexter, Penny Good, and Richard Lutnes. Faulty cameras caused a great deal of difficulties until a new camera was purchased. I can only apologize for the many pictures which did not turn out before the staff became fully acquainted with the new camera pur- chased during spring quarter. Being editor of this book has been a most rewarding ex- perience, for one never fully realizes the work put into such a production unless he has a part of it. Thanks again for all who helped at one time or another, Sincerely. Violet E. Vender Much care has been used in compiling this index of administration, faculty and students. lf there are errors or omissions, they are unfortunate and unintentional. The index does not list names of students or faculty who are not pictured and men- tioned in the copy. The enrollment of this school is such that there are bound to be some mistakes inasmuch as a variety of sources are consulted for student informa- tion.
