' THE JOB SEARCH The “favorite” pasttime of seniors Fall quarter is by far the busiest quarter for interviewing seniors. The interviews are usually a half hour long and a suit is a must. Thus, seniors are often found wearing suits to class—an oddity on this jeans and t-shirt campus. PLACEMENT Photos by Peterson 24

EALTY SERVICE HONESTY-ACTION Wheatland Hills- $92,500 read one real estate billboard. Three or four horses kept on a one-acre backyard faced the monotony and filth of a dirtlot . Wells and septic tanks were dug side-by-side. Bozeman, the city itself, suffered, too. A traffic crunch brought one-way streets, where pedestrians had few, if any, crossing rights. The one-ways went right through one elementary school zone and emptied into another. At 7:30, noon and 5:15 you’d have sworn you were in L.A. MSU met the housing crunch by building new apartments along South 19th Avenue. Christened the Brannigan complex, the buildings were begun in September and ready for occupancy by Spring quarter. Further down the street, apartment buildings and duplexes were the order of the day. Definitely a change of face for vacant fields and a change of pace for the construction industry. As hare as it may be for freshmen to imagine, college does not last forever. This fact often comes as a shock to students who suddenly realize that they're seniors and will soon have a degree. This thought also brings up the big question— What am I going to do after graduation? N It is at this point that Tom Messick. the Director of Career Placement, appears on the scene. Messick has been the Director since 1969 and does a very commendable job. He tries to get companies to come to the campus to interview students who could fit the needs of the company. The peak year for companies was in 1969 when 282 of them came to the campus. That number dropped to 121 in 1972, but rose to 180 companies in 1977 and the 1978 total will be over 210. Engineers are far and away the most sought-after graduates. About sixty percent of the companies coming to campus are looking for engineers. The large number of companies does not lessen the competition for jobs, however. Lines develop early on Monday morning (usually about five o'clock) on second floor of Reid Hall. The purpose of the people in these lines is to get signed up for the maximum number of interview spots. The number of spots on the interview sheet is limited and is filled on a first-come first-serve basis; therefore, the early bird does indeed get the worm. y 25
