Education and agriculture. The two used to go hand-in-hand, helping each other along. But it seems that in the Gallatin Valley it won’t be that way very long. Education-related jobs surpassed agriculturally-oriented jobs in Bozeman, and farm land was being subdivided for homes.  EALTY SERVICE HONESTY-ACTION Wheatland Hills- $92,500 read one real estate billboard. Three or four horses kept on a one-acre backyard faced the monotony and filth of a dirtlot . Wells and septic tanks were dug side-by-side. Bozeman, the city itself, suffered, too. A traffic crunch brought one-way streets, where pedestrians had few, if any, crossing rights. The one-ways went right through one elementary school zone and emptied into another. At 7:30, noon and 5:15 you’d have sworn you were in L.A. MSU met the housing crunch by building new apartments along South 19th Avenue. Christened the Brannigan complex, the buildings were begun in September and ready for occupancy by Spring quarter. Further down the street, apartment buildings and duplexes were the order of the day. Definitely a change of face for vacant fields and a change of pace for the construction industry.
