The foil roundups, the sleek cattle coming in from the summer ranges, brilliant colored foliage, harvest, school bells -—fall has come to Montana The twilight of the year departs in a blaze of glory as every shrub and blade of grass glows with a brighter pigment than the traditional verdant. Football sweeps the nation; students pick up their books again; nature prepares herself for a nap. Softly, warmly, contentedly, Autumn reaps the results of the summer's toil. In the words of Donne . . . No spring nor summer beauty halt such grace As I have seen in one autumnal face. 9

No season has stirred the genius of poets, or aroused the poet m the layman as has spring. No descriptive phrases have surpassed these written in honor of this time of year when, as Robert Burns said, . . nature hangs her mantle green on every blooming tree, The woods and mountains respond to restless spring and activity increases in the streams, the growing trees and the reviving countryside. This is the season of romance and as indicated in Tennyson's tribute to this occasion: In spring a young man's fancy lightly turns to thoughts of love. 1)
