The Civil Engineers are the extroverts of the engi- neering school. On sunny days they parade about the campus with their rods and transits before crowds of admiring coeds. The Chemical Engineers may be distinguished by the faint chemistry odor that accompanies them. Other engineers have only their slide rules to distinguish them from the ordinary college men. Engineering is a highly specialized profession, and its suc- cessful students must stick pretty well to business. They do, however, find time to publish THE MON- TANA ENGINEER, a first class professional journal, which is further enhanc- ing the already somewhat enhanced reputation of the engineering school. L.,

The work offered in these departments is most thorough and author- itative. Engineering graduates from this school compete very successfully W i t h men of other schools in every branch of the engineering pro- fession. Dean Wil- liam Cobleigh has in his division a staff of able engineers, many of whom have obtained national recognition in their fields. ln the death of Professor Ioseph A. Thaler in March, 1938, Montana State lost one of its most learned and influential men. He was vitally interested in the progress of his students and his department, and was admired and loved by all on the campus who knew and Worked with him.
