PRESIDENT A. LEROY STRAND This is the first bit of copy I have supplied the Montanan for twenty-two years. Since that previous occasion the number of students at Montana State College has increased more than three times, and l am sure the Montanan has im- proved in even a greater ratio. This record of faces, fun and fame for another college year is one of the few books you will buy sure to increase in intrinsic value as time goes on. I congratulate the editor and his staff for their splendid work. I should like to take this occasion to express my thanks and appreciation to the entire student body for their indulgence, their many kindnesses, excellent spirit and cooperation during my first year as president. This picture was taken when the members came to Bozeman for the inauauration ot President A. L. Strand. The Montana State Board ot Education has the heavy responsibility ot aovernina the six units ot the Greater University of Montana, ot which our colleae is a major division. Since the abolition oi the chancellorship, Dr. H. H. Swain ot Helena, in his position as Executive-Secretary, coordinates the sev- eral branches oi the University. Active administration ot the policies outlined by the Board oi Education is carried out by the pres- idents ot the several units. DEAN J. Nl. HAMILTON Dean Ethelyn C. Harri- son possesses a tolerant interest in all phases of student lite, which has won tor her the attection- ate support ot every stu- dent. She is constantly working to obtain greater cultural opportunities for the colleqe, and to in- crease the understandina between the students and the faculty. lt an otticer in a student organization needs advice or a new and ditterent idea, Dean Harrison can always help in exactly the riqht way. Dean lames M. Hamil- ton is the students' sever- est critic, and their most helpful friend. His inter- est in each individual ot the colleae, his humor and advice, have won tor him the esteem and at- tection ot every student. He saw the institution horn and has helped it qrow to its present com- plexity, yet he never tor- qets that the younq peo- ple enrolled in the school, and their interests, are most important tactors in the colleae developments.
