DEGNER, Editor BETTY ANNE MOUCHE, Assistant Editor 3 The Monrovia Student 4 fn tem the C'ampuA ?o1-eword To you, the students, faculty, and graduates, of Monrovia-Arcadia-Duarte High School, We pre- sent the Nineteen-fourty-two Moriroviari, with the hope that it will provide a graphic picture of lite here at Monrovia. For the first time in two de- cades the Monrovian has been produced during the time of War. We have shown in picture how our school has risen to face the crisis. First Aid groups, Air raid wardens, and strecher battalions have sprung into 14nd llleetA action and now are efficient and practical emergency bodies. lf we should be con- fronted lay any form of disaster during school hours the student groups would be able to quickly and efficiently handle any sort of situation that might arise. ln this year's Monrovian We trace the average student throuah his four years in l-ligh School. We have attempted to depict the daily routine of the average student, We hope that We have included everything to your satisfaction so that in years to come you will recall with ease the days spent at Monrovia. flew ?riendA 14dminiA tration Princqnal beam Student ldminu tration ?acalty Meet Ill:-. Wil on Principal 14 llleuage This year's graduates will enter a world replete with romance and adventure. At no time since the dis- covery ot America have there been more opportuni- ties tor young people. The present world conflict has opened up a vast panorama ot future activities and the world that will emerge after the war will be a new world with new objectives, with new ideals, with new problems to be solved. As the horse and buggy age gave way to the machine age, so the machine age will be succeeded by a more magnificent era. Oppcrtunity will only be limited as our capacities are limited, and those who have the tools of learning and the will to do will be indeed fortunate in the glorious days ahead. Congratulations and best wishes. A. K. WILSON, Superintendent and Principal As young American citizens, yours is a rich heritage, a wonderful privilege, and a great responsibility. You are a portion of the youth who eventually will decide the future of freed dom and democracy in America and the world. Fortunately you are not afraid of the challenge Congratulations, and best wishes for success! S, C. MCCLINTIC, Vice-Principal The chief purpose of education should be to secure the best all-around development of the individual in order that each may live more abundantly, more happily, more efficiently. more usefully, through all the years of life. With this purpose in mind, my primary inter- est is the personal development of each girl by assisting her to make choices and to evaluate her experiences and progress. I am also deeply concerned with the curriculum and social program, as they offer opportunities for the individual and social development. lt is my hope that each girl who graduates from this school may have grown physically, mentally, and spiritually, in such a way that it will enable her to live a richer and fuller life in the years that are ahead. RUTH E. FOREMAN Dean of Girls To the class of l942, congratulations! You have won by your efforts those symbols of accomplishment-your high school diplomas. But of greater value than this public recogni- tion is the knowledge and capacity for further learning you are taking with you. ln the years ahead new and greater objec- tives challenge you. May success and happi- ness reward you. ROBERT S. MANNING Dean of Boys 5 . Top Row-Draper, McAllister, Chess, Steiner, Fanning, Hester. Bottom Row-Wilson, Rives, Feeler, Wiley, Murray, Eller.
