AMERICAN FIELD SERVICE Luciano and jim 86 ANNA RIVERA The pretty, smiling girl with '5 the well-thumbed Spanish- English dictionary is Ana Rivera, Monona-Grove's AFS student from Guatemala. Having only one year of English, Ana had problems with our language at first but learned quickly. She hopes to become an English- Spanish secretary in Guatemala and eventually a teacher. Her year in America will be a big help. Life is busier and noisier than at the Instituto de la Ascunion, the private girls' school Ana at- tended in Guatemala. There Were uniforms, and more subjects and less homework per subject. There were Christmas fiestas of turkey and tamales. But this year, Ana's home was Monona- Grove. We hope she liked it. LUCIANO SPANGHER Luciano Spangher, foreign exchange student from Gorizia, Italy has proved to be a most exhilarating addition to the M. G. student body. Indeed, Luciano is a very well-rounded indi- vidual, he speaks English intelligibly and understands Spanish, French, and German. He is an avid cyclist, a prize-winning broad jumper, and a supporter of slow dances. Luciano says that Italian education is more formal and more specialized than that in America. Since he is studying to become an engineer he is presently taking advanced math, shop, and mechanical drawing. During his stay in America, he would like to visit as many other states as possible. If we Americans oould spread as much charm, warmth, and good will as has our Italian AFS'er, indeed this country would be wonderful.
