SIGMA (IMICHON MU Sigma Omicron Mu was founded in 1926 by Doctor Goodrich, then a French professor here at Monmouth. His ideal was to establish an honorary scholastic fraternity for those junior and senior students who had met certain grade re- quirements. These requirements were four semesters of honor roll, two semes- ters in succession. Its purpose is to foster intellectual achievement. Mem- bers of Phi Beta Kappa may become members and honorary members are taken in frcm time to time. Each semester Sigma Omicron Mu sponsors a Scholarship Day vv hen their new members are tapped. On this day, too, the members of the freshman hon- orary fraternities. Pi Gamma Pi end Phi Eta Mu, are tapped. This p:st fall on Scholarship Day, Mary Garden was given a degree. Following Scholarship Day is the annual banquet to which the freshman honorary fraternities are in- vited. First Row: Oyler, Smith, Forsyihe, Haun, Eeernick. Pi GAMMA PI Pi Gamma Pi is an honorary scholastic sorority, organized for the purpose of encouraging high scholarship among the freshman women. Necessary re- quirements are that each freshman must carry twelve hours of work and must have an average of 3.5 for the semester or the entire year. PHI ETA MU Phi Eta Mu is the freshman men ' s honorary scholastic fraternity. To be eligible for initiation, a freshman must have a grade point average of 3.5 in either the first semester of his freshman year, or in his entire first year. Dr. Hugh Beveridge is the faculty sponsor and the founder. First Rov : Terford, Sympson, Deegan, Foster, Whiteman. Second Row: Fox, Lindberg, Stice, Ramback, Allaman, Smith.
