ig fo z oowaLL This season the Scot eleven was buffeted a bit, in the Mid-west Confer- ence, although the conference standings bobbed up and down like a cork at sea. The last game of the season with the Scots defeating Knox won them fifth place berth in the conference, to say nothing of reclaiming the Turkey. Two Monmouth gridders were on the conference all-star roster, Tabby Talkin, and Bob McMasters. The team was co-captained by John Hahn and Jack Jaquet. Letter winners on the squad were Bob Feehley, Dave Stone, Ronald Ravenhill, Art Lauer, Don Armstrong, Bill Ray, Bob Rosenbaum, John Tarkington, Blake Turner, Bill Ray, Harry Van Fleet, Roy Pether- bridge, Keith Doanne, Bob McMasters, Paul Mcllvain, Tabby Talkin, John Perry, and John Worley. Pogue, Knox center, registers field goal as Monmouth squad awaits rebound. Monmouth players are Trotter (41), White (48), Mcllvain (47), Armstrong (40), and Talkin (58). Knox men are Pogue (shooting), Crawford (34), and Stevens (54). Monmouth and Knox presented the most interesting game of the season to a capacity crowd in the Galesburg Armory January 29th, when the Fighting Scots dropped their third consecutive game, 70-65, after two overtime periods. Naturally it was a hotly-contested struggle, but neither the exces- sive amount of fouling or frequent examples of poor officiating could distract from the color of the contest that kept the fans on the edge of their seats from the tip-off to the final gun. Monmouth jumped to an early lead and set the pace until late in the first half when Knox tied the struggle up via the free throw line at 26 all, with 1 minute and 15 seconds left to play. [30]
