CDR DENNIS G. MORRAL EXECUTIVE OFFICER They just don 7 like they used make Porsches to. Animals and kids love the XOI! Commander Morral was born in Souderton. Pennsylvania, where he attended high school followed by undergraduate work at the Unites States Naval Academy in Annapolis. Maryland. Following his commissioning in 1972. he served extensively in surface combatants on the East Coast. His six sea tours have included, prior to MOBILE BA Y. duty as Operations Officer in USS DALE, an Atlantic Fleet Cruiser and as Engineer Officer of USS DUPONT. Deployments have included two to the Mediterranean, two to the Middle East and one to the Western Pacific. Ashore. Commander Morral has served as an instructor at Naval Education and Training Center in Newport. Rhode Island, and as a student of Weapons System Science at Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey. California. He holds a Masters of Science degree in Physics. On the personal side. Commander Morral has been actively involved in Navy Boxing programs and is MOBILE BAY ' s boxing coach. He is also involved in tennis and running programs. Commander Morral makes his home in Jacksonville.

CAPTAIN F.R. WHALEN COMMANDING OFFICER Four — oh is as low as Ufe go! Anyone on the team speak German ? Captain Whalen. the son of a career naval officer, was born in Honolulu. Hawaii, attended high school in Norfolk, Virginia, and graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1963. He has served in seven combatants including, prior to MOBILE BA Y, as Commanding Officer of USS THOMAS C. HART, an Atlantic Fleet fast frigate, from 1981-83. Deployments have included five to the Mediterranean, three to South and Central America, and one to the Persian Gulf. Ashore. Captain Whalen has been assigned to the Bureau of Naval Personnel in Washington and to the United States Naval Academy on two occasions, most recently from 1983 to 1985 as the Director of Professional Development. He is a distinguished graduate of Naval Destroyer School in Newport. Rhode Island and the Armed Forces Staff College in Norfolk, Virginia. He holds a Master ' s Degree in Business from the George Washington University. On the personal side. Captain Whalen has been actively involved as a youth soccer coach at all levels in several states. Most recently, he served as Officer-ln-Charge of the Naval Academy Soccer Program from 1983 to 1985 and as a Junior Olympic coach for the State of Mississippi during MOBILE BAYS precommissioning period. He is also a practicing artist, specializing in the maritime field, with his work periodically featured as covers of professional magazines. His portrait of MOBILE BA Y is permanently displayed in the Mobile Museum as a Commissioning gift to the city. Captain Whalen. his wife Marti, and sons Scott. Master Chief Harran enlisted in the United States Navy in January 1967 at New London, Connecticut. He attended basic training at Great Lakes, Illinois and Storekeeper A school in Newport, Rhode Island. His tours of duty have included, prior to MOBILE BA Y, Naval Support Activity, Danang, Republic of Vietnam. Naval Communications Station, Londonderry. Northern Ireland, Naval Recruiting Districts Boston and Jacksonville, USS DOUG- LAS USS FULTON, and USS CLIFTON SPRAGUE where he was also a plankowner and the first crewmember to qualify as Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist. On the personal side. Master Chief Harran is an avid golfer and outdoorsman. He and his wife Nuala have three children. Kelly. Patrick, and Kevin and reside in Jacksonville Beach.
