Stacy 052 Samuel Anderson, Jr. OS2 Chevaux Dawkins Operations Specialists work in the Combat Information Center of the ship in a variety of roles. OS ' s are re- sponsible for gathering, processing, dis- playing, evaluating and dissiminating all tactical information. Using the Spy-ID radar and a host of other sensors OS ' s are responsible for detecting, tracking and identifying all friendly, hostile and neu- tral air and surface contacts within radar range of the ship. OS ' s also control all aircraft assigned to the ship and are responsible for the targeting and engage- ment of hostile surface ships with the Harpoon cruise missile. Additional duties of the OS include: Naval Gunfire Support to troops ashore, assist in the targeting and launch of the Tomahawk cruise mis- sile, operating complex computer to com- puter tactical information exchange links with other ships, perform radar naviga- tion, SAR operations as well as conduct- ing a majority of the external, radio tele- phone communication functions for the ship. 14
