COMMA DER DESTROYER SQUADRO Captain Thomas R. KINNEBREW, USN, assumed command of DESTROYER SQUADRON TWO in June 1974. The squadron was his fifth command at sea: his previous commands were USS RHEA QMSCCOJ-523, USS COCOPA CATF-1015, USS COURTNEY CDE-10211 and USS SAMPSON CDDG-105 . Captain KINNEBREW also served as the Executive Officer of the USS STALWART CMSO-4935 and of USS BARRY CDD-9335. His first assignment afloat was in the Engineering Department of USS BLACK CDD-6665 . Immediately prior to being assigned as COMDESRON TWO, Captain KINNE- BREW served in the Office of the CNO as Deputy Director of the ASW Division. Earlier assignments ashore were to the Strategic Plans Division of the Office of the CNO, The Joint Staff of the JCS, Staff of the Commander-in-Chief of the U. S. Atlantic Command, and the faculty of Brown University. An NROTC graduate of the University of North Carolina, Captain KINNEBREW holds a Masters Degree from the American University, and is a graduate of the USAF Air War College. Both Captain and Mrs. KINNEBREW are Georgians. They reside aboard U. S. Naval Station, Norfolk. Captain KINNEBREW is a recent Rear Admiral selectee. CAPTAIN LOUIS COLBUS TWO CAPTAIN T. R. KINNEBREW Although this is a return to your ship for COMDESRON TWO, it is a first for me personally. It means a lot to me because I can remember. in Newport in the mid-50's, and in Charleston in the early 6O's, looking at MITSCHER from a small boy Ca 315 ft. DEQ and dreaming about being in a grand ship such as those beautiful. impressive DL's. . . I really walked around MITSCHER and saw your unique ship: the way she rides, handles, and berths you. I enjoy all this room and comfort. . . , I also am pleased to write to two former CO's of MITSCHER. Captain Scott and Captain Paramoor. and tell them of my accomplishment and distinction: fly my pennant aboard MITSCHER, and call myself a MITSCHERMANN --. ..,..g,4 ,N : aww..-5
