School Deons constontly When the Missouri School of Mines and Metallurgy changed its name to the University of Missouri-Rolla, the university was split up into four schools. These four are the Engineer- ing, Science, Mines and Metallurgy, and Grad- uate schools. This was done to enable UMR to handle effectively the expected increase in enrollment. Each of the four schools has a number of departments contained within it. The three largest departments on the UMR campus- Civil, Electrical and Mechanical Engineering- are contained in the School of Engineering. The departments of Chemical Engineering and En- gineering Mechanics are also segments of the school. The School of Science embodies the depart- ments of Chemistry, Geology, Mathematics, Computer Science and Physics. The constitu- ents of the School of Mines and Metallurgy in- clude the departments of Ceramic, Geological, Metallurgical and Nuclear, and Mining and Petroleum Engineering. The Graduate School encompasses all de- partments. It sets policies and standards for all graduate Work undertaken at UMR. Under the direction of the four deans the schools have expanded their curricula, in- creased research facilities, and raised the academic level of UMR.
