5 ci SMSU Volleyballers Take Region 6 Championship - Again Go Bananas is exactly what the SMSU volleyball teams did, as all compiled amazing season results. The 'A' and 'B' teams both ended their seasons undefeated at 9-O and 6-0, respectively. Several junior varsity players had the opportu- nity to join the varsity in their extremely successful drive. The Bananas , as they called themselves, compiled quite a number of victories through the season's campaign. Under the direction of coach Linda Dollar, the team finished with a 61-3 match play total, five tournament championships, in- cluding invitationals at SIU, Wichita State, and Graceland College, and the Tulsa Thanksgiving Day and Wichita Air Capital Tournaments, one second-place finish, in the SMSU invitational, the MAIAW state championship, for the sev- enth consecutive year, the AIAW Region 6 championship, for the second year, and last three of four years, and once again, for the seventh year in a row, the SMSU women qualified for the AIAW National Tournament, in Princeton, New jersey, where they fought to a ninth-place finish. The 1975 team, with eight returning players, had the neces- sary ingredients for a winning team, with height, quickness, and playing experience. According to Coach Dollar, this team was by no doubt the strongest volleyball team we have had. In losing only two seniors, next year, once again, looks like a very good year.
