you acquired by dissecting common earthworms, the shattering of child- ish ideals, the confusion and darkness of seeking a faith and a pur- pose for living-if seek you did, the comfort and challenge of find- ing a faith-if find it you did. All these things which were happening inside of you we knew no way to tack onto a wooden block and run through a printing press. No need to be dismayed, however, because we couldn't capture the intangibles. There was such a myriad of things to record with just words and photographs that we could only summarize them. So turn the page and begin a resume of SOUTHWEST MISSOURI STATE from summer, i952 to spring, l953: its campus its leaders its students its organizations its sports its social life

emily mitchell Pause a moment, breathe eeply and remember, remember . . . lt's been quite a year, hasn't it? You're a different person than you were last fall. A lot has happened to you: a steady grind of classes, lazy afternoons of loafing in the rec room, a whirl of parties, a crowded schedule of meetings, speeches, concerts, plays, exhibits, movies, campaigns and elections, ball games, student teaching - so many things that all the time were changing you, however, imper- ceptibly. While you're taking inventory of the past year, don't leave out those things that a yearbook can't record, such as that new awareness you gained of the beauty and sadness of living, the history class which taught you to 'View the present world chaos in the perspective of cen- turies of conflict, the wonderful discovery of a person you want to spend a lifetime with, the awe of the marvelous complexity of the human body
