As the son of a Naxy Warrant Oiliccr. his family travelled extensively, before settling in Urbana. Ohio in 1964. Master Chiei Hofnianjoined the Naxy in October. 197 1 . just four months after graduating from Urbana High School. After recruit training at Great Lakes. Illinois. he was assigned to USS PLYMOUTH ROCK ILSD-291. Master Chief Hofman was then assigned to Naval Secu- rity Group Activity. Todendorf. Germany and was reassigned as a Navy Classiiierf Recruiter at Frankfurt. Germany in 1976. While at Frankfurt. he was responsible for recruiting military family members from .ill over Iftirope. In 1981. Nlastcr Chief I-Iofman rettirtied to sea as a Chief Petty Officer aboard USS l.IfC'ii IIJDG-381. homeported in Nlaypon. Florida. XVhile aboard LLICI-I. he made cruises to the North Atlantic. Persian Gulf and several in the Carib- bean. While on board LIQCE. he also completed a I2-month ships overhaul in Philadelphia. Pennsylvania. Master Chief Hofman was then assigned as Senior Classifier. Navy Re- cruiting District. Kansas City. Missouri. Among his personal decorations are the Navy Achievement Medal with Gold Star, the Battle Efficiency ribbon isixth awardl, Meritorious Unit Commen- dation ithird awardl and the Navy Re- cruiting Ribbon isecond awardl. He has received superb support from his wife Judy, daughter Jessica and son Bill. The Hofmans reside in the Long Beach area. 23
