Free University Comes Together A Free University, under the direction of C. Bar- clay Kuhn, one time political science professor at MSC, was started fall quarter in Mankato. Located at ll3 North Front St., the Free U was a constant sore spot with the community. It was viewed by many as a haven for drug pushers, left wing radicals and a house of ill repute. Due to these kinds of connota- tions, the Free U never really gained a following in Mankato. During winter quarter, the Free U came under new management. With the new management came a proposed change in image. To eliminate some of the iunior high school crowd that had come to hang out at the Free U, the Come Together is attempting to sell memberships to persons lo years of age or older for a fee of STO collected biannually. The mem- bership fee will provide the needed capital to get the place going besides eliminating the youngsters. According to Dan Maars, one of the new man- agers, the people in charge of the Free U had some good ideas but they were never able to put them into practice. Maars said that he hopes the Come Together will be able to put some of the plans into action. ' Plans for the Come Together include a gallery for local artists to display and sell their work on the first floor, a coffee shop on the second floor and dances to be held on the third floor. Steps are also being taken to better the rela- tionship between the Come Together and the town. The press has been encouraged to visit the Come Together which was unheard of during the days of the Free U. 24 Town vs. campus
