Lincoln Library, opened in 1958, is the hub for students studying on Valley Campus. We Learn.. l v MSC's diversification of academic programs has been constant. Prepara- tion of teachers as librarians was ap- proved ten years ago, home eco- nomics was introduced in the early 40's and MSC was approved as a vo- cational home economics training center in the early 50's. In recent years Mankato has provided not only more home economics teachers for the public schools of the state than any other single campus in Minne- sota, but also the state's greatest total number of teachers prepared annu- ally to teach in elementary and sec- ondary schools. In addition to the preparation of teach- ers, the Bachelor of Arts degree was authorized in 1946. A broad curricu- lar change was approved in 1953 with the issuing of the Master's degree for teachers. From the last Minnesota legislative session in 1968, authoriza- tion was granted for the Master's de- gree in liberal artsg the first Master of Arts candidates are expected to com- plete their work in the near future. From Auwunaws , 6 Valley Campus activity emanates from Old Main, the Administration Building and nerve center of Man- kato State College. In addition to home eco- nomics, other fields in which de- grees may now be earned in- clude majors in medical tech- nology and physical therapy, both programs are coordinated with hospitals approved by na- tional accrediting agencies. This year, a program of practical ex- perience in area dental oil-ices has been added to campus tech- nical training for dental assist- ants. Students in a Home Economics Home Plan- ning and Furnishings Class, lower left, prac- tice their aesthetic sense. 8 Mr. Donald Matting, Art depart- ment, helps a student select a paint- ing for a student display in the Art Gallery. In a Business Machines Class, Miss Betty Phillips, Business division, in- structs a student in putting the right finger on the right key.
