-1. vym ' A h w QOH' ...-sv? 1' 16 . SUMMER SCHOOL Looking both languid and serious, the young lady reflects the attitude of everyone on campus for summer ses- sions. During the two sessions, enrollment is less than during the rest of the year, and the lack of students brings about a much-appreciated lack of hurry and con- fusion. Class schedules are changed for sum- mer sessions. Classes are confined to the morning and early afternoon hours, Sat- urday meetings are taken in stride. Although class periods average two hours in length, summer affects profs just as much as students, and breaks midway through classes are the order of the day. Tuition rates per quarter hour are higher for summer sessions than for the regular college year, but the average credit load is restricted to eight or nine credits. Summer sessions offer courses in all the academic and professional fields, but many electives are cut from the pro- gram. Enrollees are mainly students who wish either to pick up courses missed during the regular term, or to graduate in three years. They are joined by gradu- ate and former students working on de- grees or taking refresher courses. Suitcase week-ends are almost un- known during summer sessions. A series of free college-sponsored activities add variety to summer school. Many students use extra hours for part time employ- mentg others find the area's recreational possibilities varied and tempting. The relaxed air and unhurried activi- ties give a distinctive summer session atmosphere.
