President Crawford ' x nl 'As head of Mankato State College, the President is responsible by law to the State College Board. Representing that Board, ,he is-chief administrator of the college and iis ,responsible for :and-has authority to direct alliactivities andhfunc- tions thereof in conformity with the ies- tablished Board rules an regulations. Because the college exists primarily for the benefit of the student body, it is necessary for the President, working to- gether with the other oflicers of the ool- ege and the staff, to correlate all phases of the college program so as to best serve the e ucational needs of those students who do college work here. Even though the teaching responsi- bilities are delegated almost completely to the classroom teachers, there are many other problems which take the time of college administration. There are frequent conferences with students, parents, staff members, teachers, and members of the community and state. Preparation of reports to the State Col- lege Board and to the legislature assume considerable importance and take con- siderable time. The President is also responsible for recommending all college employees to the State College Board. This he does with the aid and assistance and consul- tation of the various deans, division chairmen, department heads, business manager, and others involved in the work of the college. As President, he is also charged with the responsibility for all college property including the build- ings, grounds, equipment, and other possessions. Here too, coordinate officers and employees assist in the preparation and maintenance of all property records. 'Administering student activiti funds and programs is another responsi ility of the Presidents office which must be handled with the assistance and advice of committees and co-workers. Often too, there is needgfor reviewing plans for new buildings, -,.' meeting with various committees or stalteofiicials, answering correspondence, lieritertaining visiting dignitaries or officials, and generally di- e-recting the progranig of the overall ,ac- tivities Hpf. ,the college. Without the ifine. assistance of jthe 'efitirelstaf'f antlistudent body oiimmany--of'i-tliese 'i problems, it would be impossible to get all the work done. To these fine assistants and help- ers, much thanks is due for the success- ful operation of our fine school. C. L.
