Lincoln Library, opened in 1958, is the hub for students studying on Valley Campus. We Learn.. l v MSC's diversification of academic programs has been constant. Prepara- tion of teachers as librarians was ap- proved ten years ago, home eco- nomics was introduced in the early 40's and MSC was approved as a vo- cational home economics training center in the early 50's. In recent years Mankato has provided not only more home economics teachers for the public schools of the state than any other single campus in Minne- sota, but also the state's greatest total number of teachers prepared annu- ally to teach in elementary and sec- ondary schools. A statue of Abraham Lincoln, the ' namesake of Mankato State College's i library, watches over a checkout desk. 7 2-'?:E5: 3i'3 -7-if-':':'3fl'Ei3ll L-I-I-'ilii-'-1-Er.:-?-'E-:-2 UQQQQ:-:feeling Qglhihgelgflhgffn lung. In 1946 there were five members of the science and mathematics division facultyg today there are fifty-five. Simi- lar figures could be cited for each divi- sion of the college. The Business divi- sion did not even exist until 1947 when it began with one faculty member. To- day the Business faculty numbers twenty-eight and offers one of the most rapidly growing programs in the col- lege. Business division studies cover both the preparation of business teachers and workers for business and industry in the areas of business administration, ac- counting, economics, and related fields. The certified public accountant program was fully approved in 1962. Employers in business and industry actively seek MSC graduates-several hundred well- known firms annually interview students for business positions. In addition, MSC offers a strong pre- professional program in a broad range of professional fields so that a student may take a year or two of preliminary training before entering a professional school. A drafting student takes advantage of the advanced facilities in thc Industrial Arts building. In a physics class, a stu- dent takes thc lattcr alterna- tive of we listen or we ask. , .aiaew-tag. M v What M ts Last. Other fields in which special work has been added in recent years include education for the handicapped and pro- grams for the training of guidance counselors and elementary principals. These latter programs are on the gradu- ate level and within the master of science degree program. The total effect of MSC's divisional development has meant a pronounced enrichment of instruction, particularly at the level of advanced study in the students' area of major and minor con- centration. Occupied in the summer of 1962, the Industrial Arts complex houses on Highland Campus both oflices and classrooms of the Mathematics and the Indutsrial Arts divisions. F. s lf ' l N.. A. Q l l
