The activities ol' the El Sta Ma include professional discussion concerning the elementary Held, and projects directly concerned with elementaryfage children. The officers are Phyllis Smith. president: Harriet Hornnes. secretary: Miss Anna Vv'iecking, sponsor. .hi mi Page lf' Page 30 SIGNS GF OUR TIMES Mankato State Teachers College is going through a meta- morphosis. a period of change unexcelled in its history. Whetlaer it will continue to grow and expand as it has in the last two years cannot be foretold. However, at present it is like a beautiful moth leaving its cocoon and just flexing its wings, Proof that MSTC has shed the restraints of being merely a teachers college is shown in an enrollment increase of nearly one third. This increase was greater than that of any other teachers college in the state. The staff has been increased correspondingly. The state legislature has granted the college 52,195,000 for building and operating expenses. NVith this grant there will be a new classroom building and a mens dormitory added to the campus. lncreased funds for operating expenses will permit a still more varied program and an increased staff. So, as our graduates leave MSTC. they will look back on those days when the college was still in one of its primer stages. They will recall all those memories of the college that are examples of a teachers college beginning to expand and evolve into one of the leading institutions in the state. serving the area which it covers. and expanding that service for greater service. Our college is only one example of the ever-changing eduf cational system. Education passes through a period of evolu- tion as does every other aspect of our lives ln this increas- ingly complicated age of ours, we see our colleges striving and succeeding in meeting the all important goals that are set before them. Joyce Vwfilliams, Doris Krapf. KATONIAN GOES T0 HCMECCMING Here in the valley of the beautiful Minnesota River, at its southernmost point. we chose a princess to reign for the day. The ceremony began in a dark- ened hall. The lights were low, and the silence was filled with tension. One by one the attendants stepped forth from their tents. Finally the Princess was called forth. Princess Babe Farrell tools her position midst a thundering ap- plause, After the ceremony. the parade of floats inched its way through the main streets.
