CHESS TEAM The chess team’s final record was 5-5. which tied them for third out of the six teams in the Central Division of the Twin City High School Chess League. Said Bruce Fridinger of the season. “I think we could have done a little better, but we lost one player Peter Dynduik. and that hurt us. Members were. Bruce Brandt (12). Greg Peterson (10). Andy Baukol (12). Bruce Frindinger (12). Ann Amey (8). and Rich Malmsten (12). Bruce Frindinger was awarded the Honorable Mention medal for individual achievement, finishing the season with a 7-1-1 record, one of the best in the division. The matches were held every Tuesday for ten weeks at St. Paul Central High School and usually lasted one and a half hours. SKI CLUB The ski club this year had plenty of snow to ski on but the temperature and the wind did not cooperate so two of the club’s trips had to be postponed. With windchills around 50 to 60 degrees below zero not even the brave wanted to go skiing and have to ride up the chairlifts. Some of the trips took the skiers to Afton Alps, Welch Village and as far away as Duluth. Many skiers that were involved in ski club this year really thought that it was great. The cross country ski club also had a number of outings this year. Some were to Nine Mile Creek in Bloomington and to the Town and Country Golf Course in St. Paul. Even though the cross country ski club has fewer members than the downhill ski club they made up for that difference in the fun times they had skiing through the woods and over the frozen lakes.
