1981 HOMECOMING ROYALTY OH, WHAT A NIGHT! The 1981 Homecoming Royalty spent much time together during the two weeks prior to Homecoming coronation night. Both guys and girls had to find formal wear for Friday night’s coronation, in addition to attending a luncheon with President Nelson at Lees in Highland Village and many meetings with Assistant Principal Paul Norby and Principal Ken Greener. One major task was to purchase the girls’ dresses. They were found quickly at a bridal shop and it ‘just so happened’ that all six dresses were in the exact needed sizes. Evidently a bride had wanted five dresses made in one color and one dress made in another color. The manufacturer made a mistake in the odd color and the bride refused to take them, enabling the girls to get them for half price. Friday night finally came and with it excitement and anticipation. Before the program, the court gathered together in a circle for a quick prayer. Then they were introduced, along with their parents. Following the program, the candidates formed a line along the stage and 1980's Homecoming Queen and King. Lisa Erickson and Mark Aamot. walked on stage in the last minutes of their reign. Lisa ripped open the envelope, took the scepter from Mark, and walked up and down the line. Unable to continue the suspense, she gave the scepter to Dave Erickson, her brother, along with a hug and kiss. Then it was time to reveal 1981's Queen. After opening the second envelope. Mark removed the red velvet robe from Lisa and draped it around Kara Mjorud while she stood mouth-open for a second. The new King and Queen took their place together center stage amid continuing applause and finally were escorted out to receive congratulations. 0NE ENGtMNTEB EVENING Ao ‘enchanted’ evening it was! After many hours of practice, the junior class, led by president Bart Regher and in keeping with tradition. put on the Homecoming program. The story revolved around the love between the prince (Jon Fenton) and the page (Cyndi Morton) and how they found each other. To begin with, the king (Kurt Rosedahl) sent his son (Jon) with a page (Cyndi) to find a wife. They met strange people in strange lands, visiting Hard Rock Land and Fairy Tale Land. After capturing the prince and putting him to sleep, the wicked witch (Jeanne Rikkers) dueled with the page. Good prevailed over evil in the end. with the help of a handy water gun. The page, to the surprise of all. turned out to be a girl and the prince and page were married, of course. All in all the program went as planned with the exception of Jon and Cyndi’s surprise kiss at the end. 12 Homecoming Program
