Many were performed at various churches during the spring. In November the combined choirs took part in the “Festival of Praise, singing the “Ninety Fifth Psalm by Mendelssohn for the student body. The choirs also sang “The Song of Christmas by Fred Waring, and the Singers presented Bach's “Magnificat and “Twas the Night before Christmas at the annual Christmas concert. The Singers, alumni, and choirs joined together for the Seven Last Words concert in the spring. The highlight of the year for the Singers was their out-of-state tour. They also participated in a spring concert, and concluded the year with their performances at the Baccalaureate Service and at Commencement. Cast and crew were made up of students, faculty, and parents. The lead was played by Mrs. Cleone Lunseth. 30 That Scoundrel Scapin Six weeks of hard work—including a week of concentrated effort during Project Search—brought an enthusiastic cast (shown here at rehearsal) to its March 23rd and 24th performances. Held at First Christian Church in Minneapolis, the play, THAT SCOUNDREL SCAPIN, a Seventeenth Century farce by Moliere, had the audience laughing as Jim Craighead, playing the lead, demonstrated his ability to play the rogue. Others in the cast were Robert Crosby, Mary Kershaw, Carol Anderson, Peter Nelson, Mike Lazarow, Paul Rydell, Eric Johnson, Bryan Anderson, Stephen Pflanze, Naomi Emerson and Neil Pauluk. 31 WRESTLING opponent Benilde 39 Mpls. The Master ol Men expressed the ideal of leadership in a democracy when He said, and whosoever will be chief among you, let him be your servant.” The leader sees things through the eyes of his followers. He puts himself in their shoes and helps them make their dreams come true. The leader assumes that his followers are working with him, not for him. He considers them partners In the work and sees to it that they share in the rewards. He glorifies the team spirit. The leader duplicates himself in others. He is a man builder. He helps those under him to grow big because he realizes that the more big men an organization has the stronger it will be. The leader does not hold people down, he lifts them up. He reaches out his hand to help his followers scale the peaks. The leader has faith in people. He believes in them, trusts them and thus draws the best in them. The leader can be led. He is not interested in having his own way, but in finding the best way. The Art of Leadership written by Wilfred A. To meet pressing needs and to maintain quality education, Minnehaha Academy plans to expand its current facilities with a fine arts wing. The expansion will include choral and instrumental rehearsal areas, art studios, and a chapel-auditorium which may also be used for dramatic productions or be converted to three teaching stations. The cost of the project is $1,100,000. Minnehaha Academy firmly believes the fine arts are increasingly important in developing the whole person. Through the sharing of student creativity, the fine arts become a positive influence in a negative world. what we are... is God's gift to us what we become... is our gift to God congratulations Cindy and class of 73 Mom, Dad, Rita, Mel and Shelly PETERSON- ALBINSON CHAPELS Columbia Park Chapel 3207 Central Avenue N.E. 789-8889 Nakomis Park Chapel Minnehaha Parkway at Cedar 721-1651 178 Northwestern Electronics Institute Northwestern Electronics Institute is a post-secondary, non-profit educational institution devoted to training students for employment as Electronics Technicians. Ill health has forced him to remain away from school and the students that he so enjoyed teaching. Mr. Bengtson is one of the most highly qualified members of the Minnehaha faculty. He attended North Park College and holds his bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of Minnesota. He first came to Minnehaha as a teacher in 1946, then went on to become assistant principal, and later principal. His thoughtful concern for young people is reflected in the fact that, as principal, he took time for a personal interview with every senior. In 1967-68 Mr. Bengtson was the first Minnehaha employee ever to be granted a sabbatical leave. He spent it in Malmo, Sweden, studying, traveling, and polishing up his Swedish. Since his return, he has held his present position as American history teacher. His effectiveness in the classroom is due to a broad knowledge of his subject, a steadfast dedication to his profession, and the love of Christ which he shares with his students. Mr. Bengtson is known for his deep love for music. His strong, clear tenor voice earned him a place in the North Park Male Quartet and frequent solo performances here at M.A. and throughout the area. At one time he held the position of choir director at Salem Covenant Church. His love of music also led him to meet his wife, the former Helen Nelson, an accomplished pianist. They celebrated their twenty-fourth wedding anniversary in February of this year. The Bengtsons have three children: Kirsten, an M.A. graduate; Kari, a present M.A. student, and eleven-year-old Karl. All of us who know Mr. Bengtson appreciate his pleasant personality. His positive approach to life is an invaluable part of the Minnehaha community; we have missed it in his absence. He is sensitive to others and always has a kind word where one is needed. In short, he loves the people around him, and we love him in return. No! My help is from Jehovah who made the mountains! And the heavens too! He will never let me stumble, slip or fall. For he is always watching, never sleeping Jehovah himself is caring for you! He is your defender. He protects you day and night. He keeps you from all evil, and preserves your life. He keeps his eye upon you as you come and go, and always guards you. Psalms 121
