H. S. Here was a group of inexperienced young travelers who were waiting eagerly at the city gates which led into the desert. Heated discussions took place as to whether camels of the Commer- cial, the General Science, or the English species were the best. After each had chosen his camel for the trek, the next thing in order was the choosing of a chief guide. As a result of quite some controversy, the group settled upon Memsahib Helen Dietrich. As her assistants: Vincent Polen, chiefg Ruby Haynam, recorder and Robert Thrower, treasurer, were appointed. During the remaining three years their Well executed oflices were filled as follows: Chief, Harold Lippincott, Harold Pryor, Halford bwearingeng Recorder, Helen McClelland, Richard Freed, Mildred Welchg Treasurer, Anna Belle Jenkins, Ruby Haynam, Mildred Welch. Under hot suns, over burning sands, the little band struggled on. through many a hardship and many a pain, valiant even unto the end. Still under the guidance of their trusty headman, Memsahib Die- trich, the caravan of now seasoned travellers safely reached the end of their long and arduous journey, much the wiser for their desert experiences and the knowledge gained during the trek. Their journey done, their tasks completed, I hear them singing as they continue on their way, the desert's plaintive parting song: 'l'lil- mlm-sl-rl, has Hl'll5llE'll my ll0Zll't I llt'X'l'l' sliaill fm's4n-i- 'Flic lzlnrl wli1-1'-- stars uf silvii flirt Their :sils-nt. triliutv in the night.
