Sophomore Class Play Freshman Class Play TOURNAMENT PLAYS The annual play tournainent, sponsored by the National Thespians, in which groups ot actors from each of the tour classes competed with each other, was held lanuary 30, The winning play was given by the Sophornores, while the Fresh- men took second place. Bruce Ecklund was noted as the best actor. Members of the various casts were as follows: Iunior Class Play Freshmen- The Ring and the Look Directors: Virginia Beattie and loyce Lynum. Actors: lack Hinshaw, Phyllis Whipple, Barbara Farnsworth, Bill Schultz, lean Austin, Shirley Walter, Bertha Woods, and Virginia Caroland. Sophomores -- Betts' Best Bet Directors: Louise Lau and loyce Birkenmeier Actors: Vera Mason, Bruce Ecklund, Norine Boyd, and Roger Tappendorf. Iuniors - Sugar and Spice Directors: Craig Kelly and lean Praggastis. Actors: lack Larson, Nina Maxwell, Darlene Nott, Bill King, and Betty Brown. Seniors - Three's a Crowd Directors: Bill Carey and Katherine Ann lossy. Actors: Bob Gatchett, Marty McNair, Mary Ann Iessop, Hugh Mills, and George Carlson.

THE CHRISTMAS PLAY This year the famous play, Why the Chimes Rang, which in past years had become almost a tradition at Milwaukie, was again presented on the high school stage. Cast in the play were Dottie Baier, Ronald Webster, Wallace Mclntyre, Law- rence McHill, Elsie Hiem, lean Lawrence, Donald Uptegrove, Bob Gatchett, Rupert Cfoodspeed, Richard Kingsbury, and Meryl Mathison. The play, which was directed by Miss lean Rice, was a part ot the Christ- mas program in which the choral groups under direction ot Miss Harriett Baldwin, played a leading part. PATRIOTIC ASSEMBLY Highlight ot the patriotic assembly given on February l9, in honor of Lincoln's and Washingtons birthdays, was an original dramatization from the lite of Ludwig Berne-lmans, written and directed by Miss Katherine Duniway. lt called attention to the privileges conferred by American citi- zenship. The cast included lack Larson, Bill King, Bill Morse, Rupert Goodspeed, Norma Bricky, Vada Davis, Alta Redman, Sam Flint, Bill Palmer, Bob lohnson, Ernest Berg, Frank Randall, Dorothy Mosser, Lar- raine Hoy, Evelyn Cameron, Darlene Nott, Mildred Hicks, and Phyllis Prigmore. The picture shows lack Larson as Bemelmans in the Nazi jail scene from the play.
