R 0 O N 811111 Xlllllbll B XSKI IBAII BOXS x nut 1 1 um m ll nu I um Hill K hut lim ll 1 X uns Olin NN 1 Boys Athletlcs BASKETBALL M H S has agam put forth a basketball team whlch has undoubtedly b en 1 su cess The outlook at the begmnmg of the year was not very brlght smce only four games were scheduled and consequently thls left a good many dates unflll d between games Later ln the year these dates were fllled w1th Washington tea'ns and although we lost much beneflt was derlved from them and they no doubt helped us ln our other contests Three major reasons why Nlllwaukle had a good basketball team are the back mg supplled by the school durlng the whole season the pep and teamwork alway evldent and malntalned 1n the team ltself at any tlme or place and last but not l ast tne SCFVICGS of Nlr Davis as coach He was always ready to help or advls any member of the team and dld hrs best to develop a wlnnmg team for Nlllwaukle Hngh Next year s team w1ll have only two letter men out but rf some of the rooks keep lmprovmg at thus vears rate a future team may be looked for that wlll delrver the goods THE GAMES Mzlwaultze 27, Beaverton 22, at Mzlwaukze Everyone wanted to start the season cut r1ght and the team wantmg to start out rlght too put If across Mzlwaukze 40 Hubbard 22, at Mzlwaukze Hubbard was an easy mark Indeed for the Nlxlwaukxe guards and thls coupled wlth the far supernor basket shooting of the Mllwaukle forwards proved to Hubbard that lt was good mght game Page 11111111 MA .' Srrlh Xunrbt 1 U Mzlwaukze 21 Beaverton 17 at Beaverton Again Beaverton tasted defeat and although the frrst half ended rn a tre our tossers led the rest of the game Mzlwaukze 9 Hubbard rr, at Hubbard Our confidence the absence of a competent referee and the condrtron of th court proved our undoing GAMES WITH WASHINGTON TEAMS Mzlwaukze 8 Washouval 20 at Washougal The weight of Washougal s team together wrth their having a large floor put us rn a background of rather dark color Mzlwaukze 14 Camas 29 at Camas For the second trme a Washington team took away the honors but this game was played on a Saturday and our players had been working all day and by the trnre they reached Camas they were about all rn Mzlwaukze I5 Camas 30 at Mrlwaukre When thrs game was arranged we hoped to ditch our bad luck but rt evidently had persistent qualrtres We must admrt trat Camas had a good team THE PLAYE RS Captain Dar Smith was at hrs best thrs year and hrs services always exceeded what was expected of hrm rn both quantity nd quality lf you are lookrng for a star basketball player we recommend Brll Adams who knows how to keep the scorekeepers as well as his opponent busy Another example of a real player rs Marvin Shrock at center who could pass as an essentral part of any team thrs year we have hopes of hrs remaining wrth us for an unspecified length of trme A second Stonewall jackson rs found rn Otto Wrtte as guard and unless death or hrs paSt overtake hrm he wrll be wrth Us next year Srnce thrs was hrs frrst year out for basketball Kenneth Brrkemerr drd not get much chance to show off rn a game but wrth next season s practrce there rs no doubt as to hrs abrlrtres rn basketball Bob Crockett and Art Smith are two more young ones who wrll have more of an opportunrty next year to show what they can do INTFR Cr ASS CoNTrsTs Several rnter class contests were held between the Frosh Sophs and S nrors the junior class not competing because they drd not have enough players to make a team The frrst game was between the Sophs and Freshmen the former wrnnrng 30 to 3 Next the Sophs were defeated by the Scnrors rn a hotly contested game by the score of I5 to I4 Another game was arranged between the Sophs and Frosh and agarn the Sophs won at to 1 Much rnterest was aroused rn a contest between the Seniors and Sophs becau e the basketball season had rnterwened between thrs and the last one and all the players were fed up wrth practrce The Seniors kept ahead during the whole game and frnally won by two pornts 1 to 5 Page 1 hrrly om r' MAH UN '21 J V .
