"Mediocre might possibly best describe what was expected from the 77-78 Milton football squad. This year was expected to be a stepping stone to a better succeeding year especially after the 76-77 team's disappointing season." Coach Wat Farrar In traditional Bulldog-like character, Milton's men of might donned their uniforms of power and humility. lt might even be ventured to be said that this stocky dynamo of energy was surprised with itself after its victory over Greenville, the first team Tom Hemmerick, Dana Dickison, Tom Koogler, Tony Sergent, played that presented any real challenge. The Bulldogs unified with exceedingly exhuberant energy to meet archrival Brookville, who was previously second in the state. Yet, all the psychological effort wasn't necessary because the opposition proved to be not even a close match to Milton's compacted power. This was the first year since 75-76 season that Bulldogs have had a taste of league championship and the first time since 69-70 season that the Bulldogs have gone undefeated. I , 1 , 1 , x If I ' Af f ' X 'wi 1 YV' .'f- A magical night of beauty and brawn descended on Milton one frosty October night. A fantasy land of victory for a team recovering from a past year's poor season and for a hopeful young girl who was to be crowned queen. This was indeed a wonderful night yet it did not lust appear unexpectedly. Much preparation went into each facet of the events, starting with the parade and coronation, and climaxing with another dramatic Bulldog victory. Even in a fantasy land, there are many losers and only a few winners. The iunior class won first place for their float with the theme "The Force Be With You". Tammy Curry was selected Homecoming Queen of Milton-Union. Best of all, our football team stomped Valley View 47- 30. Yes, it was indeed a night of wonderful happenings. ...an ..f..:,a":'.' Art's Festival In May, our Art, Industrial Art, Home Ec., and foreign language departments sponsored the Art's Festival. There were many peo- ple who participated in the annual affair that took home a ribbon of first, second, or third place or honorable mention. This year's Art's Festival was a great success, and we hope to have many more in the future! l' 1 4 Xxx miuulk HOUQEHUU, Ar'c'E:xaoR1E' Q . -1 V x - .4-Q-' 'Y i ' + f Coach Farrar Retires lt was a somber evening when Wat Farrar announced his retirement as coach. Although it had been talked about for many years no one expected it so soon. We've all enjoyed watching "Farrar's" football team go out there and win. Now those days are gone and Mr. Wat Farrar will be joining us in the stands urging the Milton-Union football on to another S.W.B.L. title. L Honor Society lnducts tid As every year the solemn ceremony of the National Honor Society took place in Milton Union's High School gymnasium. Family Living egwgq xy I our ' - ."f- ., A f.f'f. , N The Family Living classes have done many interesting things this year. We've had many speakers, there's never a dull moment. Among the many interesting things were the Hairtenders, three Cosmetologists, that cut and styled the hair of Mitsu Diley and Kym Walker, among many others. We've had Mark Monroe CV.D. Kingb and Ellen Collins to explain birth control and venereal disease, speakers about child care and a movie on the birth of a baby. lt's been an excellent year in Family Living. The Seniors of 78 participated in simulated wedding ceremonies in Mrs. Janie Carter and Mrs. Kathy Ladd's Family Living classes. They were all paired up and underclassmen filled in the spaces. Each couple had to plan their own wedding, discovering that there is more to a wedding than saying "I do" and the first kiss as husband and wife. lt was not only a learning experience in this way but the couples got to know each other better and many were surprised at their findings. Each class participated in "class weddings" where one couple was chosen and they all made the same decisions as each individual couple had. It was a beautiful experience that everyone seemed to enjoy, The couples were 2nd period - Mr. and Mrs. Steve CKarIa Kleatherj Morgan, 5th per. Mr. and Mrs. Steve fDenise lsaacasj Beck, 6th per. Mr. and Mrs. Mark CSue Baldasarej Britain, 7th per. Mr. and Mrs. Jim CJulie Lieserj Faze. The Beck's and the Faze's ceremonies were performed by Reverend Richard E. Van Tine at the United Church of Christ in a touching candlelight service. The Britain's ceremony was to be held outdoors with our own Mr. Hensley officiating but was moved indoors at the Gverlook Park for meteorological related reasons. The Morgan's ceremony was held at the Hoffman United Methodist Church with Reverend Flay Vincent as pastor. There was much work put in by Mrs. Ladd and Mrs. Carter and all the students, most of whom will eventually appreciate all the valuable information. l53 Senior A wards Banquet May 19, the seniors were treated to a special carry-in banquet in order to award each person attending a humorous award based on past experiences or habits. The evening began with a delicious meal of grand variety and at dessert time a short cinema. Movies taken throughout the history of the class of 78 as taken by Mr. and Mrs. Norman Reeder were shown while everyone finished their dessert and reminisced. Everyone enjoyed watching friends square dance, race, fish and basically ham it up. Then the awards were given and even the classes advisor got into the act by giving president Julie Lieser a kite to remind her what to tell people if she's ever offered a presidency again CGO fly a kitely and some marbles to replace the ones she has lost throughout the years. The evening ended on a somewhat sad note as the realization of separating became more visual. -av' " LA iu I2 H gil.-- President Julie Lieser displaying Denise Coppocks Ralph Mouth award. Valedictorian The Senior class of Nineteen Hundred and Seventy Eight finally took that big step into the future - graduation, May 18, 1978. lt was the first successful outdoor ceremony ever held at Milton-Union. Their motto "So Little Done So Much To Do" is so appropriate not only for the class of 78 but for every graduating class. Even though it seems such a long hard climb to graduation there is still so much to be done in our lives and graduating is the first step in a long series. The valedictorian, Karla Kleather gave an outstanding and heartwarming farewell speech as did the salutatorian, Deborah Harshbarger. They both received the Danforth award for the courage to carry out future goals. Other special awards went to Julie Lieser and Rick Sandifer for achievement awards given by the class. Graduation is a time of mixed emotions, happiness at crossing that long awaited bridge and sadness at leaving friends you've known for such a long time. C. did a fine job and will attest that it was no easy one. First, the delegates established a party platform which took much heated debate, Then the main function began which was to choose a party candidate for the presidency. Brad Sowry won one the first round by a small but potent margin. Julie Lieser got the vice-pres- idential okay as the first girl in Milton's his- tory of conventions to capture a nomination.
