The 1955-5,4 basketball season ended Friday,
March 6, when the Bulldogs were defeated hy
Tecumseh in the District Class A Tournament. This
was the last game for five seniors: Co-Captain Don
Hall. 'lerry lflliott, Alan Stout. Gary lddings and
Ronnie Koogler.
Coach Bill Ginns charges had a very successful
season. as they compiled a regular season record of
15 wins and 5 losses. Their only defeats came at the
hands of Dunbar, Oakwood and Roosevelt. In
tournament play they defeated Springfield Catholic.
SS-34, in overtime play, and then lost to top-seeded
Tecumseh, 69--46.
For the third consecutive year, the Bulldogs cap-
tured a part of the Southwestern Buckeye League
Championship. Co-Captain Ken Heinmerich led all
scorers in the league with a 21.7 average.
This was Coach Ginns second year at Milton-
l'nion. The future looks very hright for Mr, Ginn
and the Bulldogs with this year's reserve squad
having a very good record, Several of the reserve
players will add strength to the varsity squad with
their height, since a lack of height was the weakness
in this years team. If these taller hoys can attain the
scrap and hustle of this years squad. they will
certainly make other teams fear Coach Ginn s
HCiI'OXX'llf1y21 Bulldogs. '

The 1953 baseball team had a successful season
winning 10 games and losing two. One loss was to
Arcanum 5-1, which in a return game Milton won
5-1. The other loss was to a strong Dayton Roosevelt
team.
The league record was six wins and no losses
which gave Milton the Southwestern Buckeye League
championship. This makes the second year straight
that Coach Bob Long's Bulldogs have either won or
shared the title. Last year Milton was co-champs with
West Carrollton.
There were three highlights of the baseball season.
The first was when our three pitchers, Kinnison, Sot-
zing, and Brumbaugh, combined to pitch a no hit
game against Piqua. The second was the 2-0 win over

West Carrollton which was revenge for last year's
only league loss. The third highlight was the Trot-
wood game which decided the championship. Each
team went into the game with identical league records
of five wins and no losses. Milton won 6-1 on a
three hitter by Dick Sotzing.
Two of the standouts on the team were Captain
jim Kinnison and Dick Sotzing. jim handled 62
chances at first base and did not have an error. Dick
won 4 games without a defeat. In 32 innings he gave
up 15 hits and only four runs.
The 1954 team will still have six lettermen and
they are looking forward to a very successful season.
Mr. William Ballinger will be the coach.

The junior high football team was coached by Mr. William Ballinger this year.
Although the team finished the season with a record of two wins and five losses, Coach
Ballinger was highly pleased with their performance.
Coach Ballinger also was in charge of the junior high basketball team. This squad
of boys finished its season with a fine total of eight wins and two losses. Mr.
Ballinger singled out Larry Lair, the team's center, for his extra praise.
This was Mr. john Brill's first year here at Milton-Union and one of his assignments
was coaching the freshman basketball team. Coaching is nothing new to Mr. Brill,
who has coached many sports at Dixon High School. His freshmen finished the
season with a record of eight wins and five losses, including the two games they
won to become champions in the Piqua Invitational junior High Tournament.

The Covington ball game on October 23 was designated as homecoming night. The
queen's float, decorated by the Tri-Hi-Y, was the center of attraction. The queen's iden-
tity was kept a secret until Peggy Koogler was crowned by co-captains, Don Cummins
and Ronnie Koogler. She and her attendants were clad in formals and fur capes, and
each carried 11 bouquet a red carnations. The queens crown was made with white carna-
tions and red rose buds.
The Queen and her court viewed the ball game from the fifty yard line under a trellis
of red roses. Thus the homecoming ceremonies of 1954 proved to be one of the very
best.

The Milton-Union Student Council was organized in 1948. This year, as in several
previous years, the Council was responsible for having programs printed for the football
and basketball games.
Other duties of the Council were to appoint hall monitors, take care of the trophy
cases, and to plan and carry out the Dad's Night program. They were always striving to
improve the morale, conduct, school spiritgand the care and treatment of the building.
As in the past, the Council took up collections for the junior Red Cross, March of
Dimes, and Tuberculosis Association.

The 1935 edition of The Ecko won a "B" plus rating from the National Sthool
Yearbook Association. and a second place rating from the Columbia Scholastic Press
Association. It was by far the best yearbook Miltonflfnion had produced up to that
time.
This year the staff has worked hard putting together what we believe to be the
best annual to be turned out by the students of this school. Bigger and better pictures
with less writing was the order of the day for this publication. and we hope you enjoy
every hour you spend with this edition.

Miami Valley High School journalism Association clinic at McGuffey High School, Ox-
ford, Ohio. Two members also attended the meeting of the Ohio State High School
journalism Association at Ohio State University.
National Scholastic Press Association, Columbus Scholastic Press and the Quill and
Scroll all gave copies of the Bulldog Barl-: a second rating in the 1952-1953 contests.

The combined chorus of Milton-Union High School has grown to include more than
one hundred members. The chorus had a prominent part on the annual Christmas pro-
gram presented by the vocal music department, which included the operetta "The Christ-
mas Bazaar" presented by the seventh and eighth grades. The piano quartet also played
several numbers. On this program the featured work was again "'Twas the Night Before
Christmas."
The formal spring concert given April 30, featured the "Polovetzian Dances" from the
opera Prime Igor by Borodin and Handel's "Hallelujah Chorus."
Various members of the chorus and the boys' and girls' choruses also sang on assembly
programs, a radio program and at Rotary Club.
The piano quartet which began as an experiment had success sufficient to warrant mak-
ing it more or less permanent. The quartet also had a group of numbers on the Spring
Concert playing four pianos.

Newton High School Band, gave assembly programs
at home, presented their annual concert on February
25, entered district contest at Vandalia, participated
in Miami Valley Band Festival held at West Alexan-
dria on May 14, and presented an outdoor concert at
the end of school.
The pep band is a group of twenty-two players
from the senior band, who under the direction of
james Lea, student director, played for all pep as-
semblies, basketball games both at home and away,
and at other occasions where the full band could not

Sports build character, make friends, and give relaxation not only to any boys who par-
ticipate in them but to the girls who through the years have gained an increasing partici-
pation in interscholastic sports. The benefits gained through athletics in physical better-
ment is equaled by learning the advantages in comradeship and team play which will be
used throughout life. The girls of the GAA are doing their part to improve tomorrow
by learning cooperation with others.
Throughout the year they have participated in many activities including swimming at
the "Y", a Christmas party, a covered dish supper, and a sport night in the spring of the
year. The three main activites were the Sweetheart Hop held on February 13, when 'lane
Price reigned as queen, the annual banquet in May when Miss Lucille Anderson, the ad-
visor, gave the trophies for the most outstanding player and the most outstanding member
and other awards, and the interscholastic volleyball and basketball games.
