9, euivrs cp garward EXECUTIVES . . . Polly Pol- ing, secretary, Virginia Hemmerich, treasurer, Mrs. Kathleen Geeting, adviser, Shirley Spitler, president, Barbar. Min- nich, reporter, and Jan Thompson, vice presi- dent, were the officers the seniors elected to lead them through their final year at Milton- Union high school. A journey of a thousand miles begins with one step, is the motto of the senior class. The colors are cadet blue and white, the flower, a red American beauty rose. From the first grade through their senior year Milton-Union students look for- ward to the senior trip. In order to finance this iourney it is necessary for the class members to engage in various money-making proiects, Collecting magazines and newspapers for drives, or selling salt water taffy, tickets for the senior class play or magazine subscriptions were iust a few of the enterprises sponsored by the class. The members also held a bake sale each month, maintained the coat check at home basketball games, served banquets, and produced a senior class play. The senior trip was taken during the Easter vacation. It proved to be a spec- tacular affair with the group in New York and Washington during the Easter season. In Washington a visit to Mount Vernon, Arlington Cemetery, and the Lincoln Memorial were only a few highlights of the six-day trip. Going to New York the class took a boat cruise around Manhattan Island, participated in the Easter parade, and went to the top of the Empire State building. Richard Sotzing, Ivan Kunkleman, Keith Altic, Bill Yates, Jerry Swigart, Phil Brumbaugh, Norman Van Zant, Ronald Macy, Jim Kinnison, Duane Weikert, Myron Puterbaugh, and Jan Thompson represented the class on the football team. Jan Thompson and Myron Puterbaugh were co-captains of the squad. Richard Sotzing, Jerry Swigart, Phil Brumbaugh, and Myron Puterbaugh were honored by being members of the Southwestern Buckeye All-league team. Richard Sotzing, Phil Brumbaugh, Ronald Macy, Jim Kinnison, and Myron Puterbaugh played on the varsity basketball team. Norman Van Zant was man- ager of the squad. On May 9 the seniors were entertained by the iuniors to a French-theme ban- quet and dance. Dr. Stewart W. McClelland of Indianapolis, Indiana, gave a very impressive speech at the candlelight commencement service. The senior class members' school days came to an abrupt finale with the alumni banquet and dance.
