september As another boring summer leads into another exciting school year, all the students at MHS came bounding back into their classrooms with broading smiles and broading minds. tbig deaD We started off the year with a new array of teachers. Our Biology teacher of nine years, David Roach, moved to Enslow. Robert Bailey, our other biology teacher, moved to the inner circle as counselor. The teachers and students were back to playing musical rooms again. That is to say, being short of rooms and boosting the enrollment to 750. The football team started the year off right with their straight wins, ending the month with a 4-1 record. The band did well, placing high in all competition. The girls basketball team got us out of class two days to watch them. The Career Fair held at the Vocational Center on the 27th was Yes, September started us off on another year. tbig deali

october October was a great month for the Greyhound Band. The Big Blue Marching Machine went to a competition in Hamlin where they placed second overall out of twenty-three bands. On the fifteenth they went to the Tri-State Competition in Huntington where they came in thirteenth of thirty-three bands and the rifle and flag corps both came home first place winners. In October the Big Blue's football games were played against Barboursville, Pt. Pleasant, Ceredo - Kenova, and St. Albans. The latter was our homecoming game. Many events happened throughout Homecoming Week, October 24-29th. On Monday it was physical day and students dressed in sweats, tennis shoes, and headbands. At noon there was a tug of war contest between the three classes. Tuesday was halloween day and there was a wide variety of interesting subjects roaming our halls. At noon there was a volkswagen beetle stuff, which the seniors won. Would you believe 27 people in a beetle? Wednesday was dressup day and students dug back into their closet to wear their Sunday best. On Thursday it was punk day. The students dressed in the weirdest, funkiest clothes they could drag out. Miniskirts were everywhere teven on some guysi. There was a pep assembly in the afternoon which included a toilet paper wrap, display of the winning float by the senior class, and the crowning of Mr. Greyhound, Jack Barker. Friday was the traditional blue and grey day. Coronation ceremonies were held for Miss Greyhound. Darla Leadmon was crowned Homecoming Queen. The Homecoming parade ended at the football field. The Big Blue won their homecoming game against St. Albans. Saturday night was the homecoming dance which was held at the Gateway Inn. Most couples ate dinner at a restaurant such as Steak 8: Ale, Alpine Village, or Permone's. Pictures at the Dance were taken by Danny Chapman and the music was done by Donnie hm , Wisman. rri 5t . The ever dreaded state Junior Testing was held Oct. 25, 26, 27. The Miss Flame contest was held and Darla Leadmon was crowned on Oct. 12 The US. Army band rocked us on October 20th. They were great!
