In these last six years of learning, our purpose was to establish a life of musical harmony. Our Head Conductor was Mr. J. Y. Lowe, with Mrs. Allred, Miss Browder, Mr. Cain, and Mr. Basham as Assistant 'Conductors. Jane Hollandsworth, Sue Billups, Homer Alford, and Jimmy Cummings, were elected as Student Conductors to lead the smaller orchestras. Our doctors and nurses who were to keep the musicians in good health were Marion Hunt, Cynthia Brown, Bobby Legg, and Charles Dailey. May 1952, our musicians departed for well earned vacations. CHAPTER II-EIGHTH GRADE. On September 1952, after a long vacation, we entered as experienced musicians of the eighth grade. Assistant Conductors who directed us were Miss Warren, Mrs. Thornton, Mr. Ball and Mr. Fugate. The new Student Conductors were Jane Burton, Parthena Sutphin, Don Sargent, and Danny Johnson. Those who practiced diligently and became members of the band were Pauletta Moses, Cynthia Brown, Marion Hunt, jane Hollandsworth, Pat Wallace, Buddy Everett, Dixie Kelley, Arlene Dailey, and Maxwell Roberts. This concludes the second year of our many accomplishments and places us a step higher on the ladder of learning. CHAPTER III-NINTH GRADE. As the musicians entered the ninth grade, September 1953, we were automatically known as freshman. Christine Jenkins, Parthena Sutphin, Gary Rowsey, and Bobby Jones were elected as Student Conductors, which were in charge of the orchestras of Mrs. Taylor, Mrs. Stanley, Mr. McCoy, and Mr. Throckmorton. Several of our musicians who enjoyed the music of hammers, saws, tractors and etc., joined the F.F.A. Others that wanted to use their voice as the outlet of their soul, became members of the junior high glee club. Patricia Vance, Don Sargent, Jimmy Mohr, Shirley Kinder, Parthena Sutphin, and Jerry Temple- ton enjoyed making music with their instruments, so they joined the band. Our most active male soloists joined the junior high football and basketball teams. Musi- cians on the football team were Paul Hatfield, Jarrell Sargent, Bob Jones, Jimmy Cummings, Maxwell Roberts, Jarrell Bledsoe, Darrell Bledsoe, Homer Alford, Gary Rowsey, Arnold Persinger, Butch Legg, Don Morrison, Owen Edwards, and Jack Morris. Musicians of the basketball team were Keith Barrett, Don Weatherholt, Gary Rowsey, Maxwell Roberts, Bob jones, Butch Legg, Jack Morris, and Paul Hatfield- with Sue Billups, Charlotte Clay, Mary Queen, Dixie Kelley, Marion Hunt, and Jane Hollandsworth as the active female soloists, serving as the junior high cheerleaders. As sophomores , entering in the fall of 1954, we were directed by Mary Queen, Sue Billups, Shirley Kinder, Dalvin Dailey, and Homer Alford, who helped Miss Kline, Miss Blake, Mrs. Harshbarger, and Mrs. McClung, our Assistant Conductors. Two of our instrument-playing musicians, joined the band this year. They were Peggy Ball and Sue Billups. Also, we will never forget our first band camp at Davis Creek. The outstanding event, which kept all musicians guessing, was our election for the attendant to Miss Greyhound . The sophomore class chose Dixie Kelley as the most outstanding girl this year, and she was escorted by Jack Morris. Dixie was also elected as our only sophomore majorette for the marching band.
