' .rt,.u....,u,tl..,,u,.tt.. 2 A A eww., 4 , At l Lal' :R ,V by A ' A , t,...,....,t,.tt......... .1 A ' rr.r , ,,,,,,.. ,, , , 1 . 3 . . . to.u.... ..,, 2 . 1.25.4 A X Y L' " . ,,,, . ,,,,,,,, H , .... 1.2.3.4 N vt . . . .. ,, ,,,. , . ll' Wf v . . t.r.. ,t.... 4 ' el r.t, ,r.. ..r, I , , . ., 3.4 - Ax 5 H f,..+2"'w 1" 9 CLASS PROPHECY As I was dorng my house work one Monday mornrng rn July 1969 the door bell rang I threw down the mop and hurrred to the door The marl man was there wrth a specral delrvery letter FOR ME It was from an old classmate Harlean Hudson a WAVE statroned rn Calrfornra She was gorng to be promoted to Major and was to have two weeks leave She wanted me to come out and spend some trme wrth her Stunned I sat on the davenporr Harleans letter remrnded me of all the good trmes I had had rn hrgh school as presrdent of the senror class rn basketball on the paper and annual staff and at all our partres etc The longer I thought about rt the more certarn I became that rt was lust the vacatron I needed So the followrng Frrday I boarded the plane at Krrksvrlle I was scared strff As I sat there awartrng the take off a vorce from across the arsle asked me rf thns was my frrst trrp I let go of the srde of my seat and trred to make my shaky vorce sound natural as I admrtted rt was As I glanced across at my rnqurrer my eyes flew wrde open for rt was none other than my classmate Judy Younker and who should be srttrng besrde her but Lrnda Sandy I found out that Judy was now workrng for the government rn Washrngton D C She also rnformed me that she was engaged and about to be marrred to the top man of the F B I Durrng her vacatron Judy had decrded to come back and vrsrt her hrgh school chum Lrnda Sandy Lrnda rs now Mrs Dean Bradley resrdrng rn Krrksvrlle Mrssourr where Dean rs foreman of the constructron company that rs now burldrng the 4 lane hrghway from St Lours to Chrcago When Judy arrrved she had learned that Dean had been trans ferred to Denver and that Lmda and her frve lrttle Bradleys were preparmg to jorn hrm I met her frne chrldren but drdnt have long to talk to them because we were now comrng rnto the Denver Stapleton Arrfreld I bade good bye to Lrnda and Judy and collected my belongrngs for my departure Another plane was unloadrng at the same trme as mrne and the crowd was bump mg and pushmg to get to the termmal burldrng All at once a surtcase hrt me rn the back and almost knocked me over I thought thrs was uncalled for and turned to grve the owner a prece of my mrnd There stood a smrrkrng man rn an Arr Force forgot about the accrdent and began talkrng as fast as we could By thrs trme we had reached the termrnal burldrng We made our way to the coffee counter Over our coffee I found out that Joe was a Colonel rn the Arr Force He was now on leave and was rn Denver vrsrtrng some of hrs relatrves The arrplane to Calrfornra was delayed so I had four hours to spare Joe asked me rf I wanted to take a drrve rn the country I thought thrs would be refreshrng so we were off Shortly we came to a srgn besrde the road Merlm Harrymans Beef Ranch Thrs name rang a bell so we stopped to see rf thrs was our old classmate We spotted Merlm leadrng what we found to be a prrze blll rn the barnyard so went out there Merlm had burlt up hrs ranch from just a few cattle and now he had prrze wrnners He was dorng very well We talked for qurte a whrle and then had to return to the termrnal Joe left me there I caught my plane to Calrfornra I dozed off for a whrle but was awakened shortly by someone callrng Terry Lynn' Terry Lynn' I turned to see my old classmate Mary Lee runnrng down the arsle after her 3 year old grrl The lrttle grrl was havrng the rrme of her lrfe and she squeezed rn besrde me to hrde from her mother As Mary Lee stopped to get her daughter she recognrzed me I found out that Mary Lee Gene and Terry Lynn were gorng to Calrfornra to see Mary Lees aunt Mary Lee told me that she and Gene were now resrdrng rn Cedar Raprds and that Gene was Assrstant Manager of the Collms Radro Company there We had a very nrce vrsrt and rt rnade the trrp to Calrfornra seem very short At the arrport rn Los Angeles I bade Mary Lee Gene and therr daughter good bye and we went our separate ways I then went to check rn my baggage There was an rmportant lookrng man ahead of me preparmg to make a flrght I glanced at the tag on hrs surrcase and rt read Bob Wrsbey The name regrstered at once When he turned we recognrzed each other at the same trme I learned that Bob had graduated from Iowa State College wrth the hrghest honors He told me that he was now a constructron engmeer of the frrst transcontrnental brrdge across the Atlantrc Ocean from New York to France Bob had to rush to catch hrs plane so I wrshed hrm luck and he was off -9 . .
