CLASS PROPHECY
Having finished my year of teaching C1964 19651 and enjoying travel very much I set
out upon a Journey to find my former classmates
S1nce my ambition has always been to fly I climb aboard a TWA and head towards
Mlnrlea-P0115 and important air line center While waiting for the next plane I roam
around the city I notice a large area covered by many huge and magnificent buildings
and upon drawing near a sign 1S visible "State University of Minnesota Land of the
Lakes and Busy People ' The beautiful buildlngs attract my attention and I decide
inspect the campus more closely I enter the building which houses the classrooms and
well for land sake s there 1S a plate on the door reading Professor Wheaton
Economics Instructor My' that name rings a bell Thus I open the door to behold
Darrell a very industrious young man sitting at his desk After v1s1t1ng for sometime
and suddenly reallzlng that my plane Wlll be leaving r1ght away I head back for the a1r
field I call a taxi and why? Isn't that B1lly House 'P That surely lS a coincidence that
Billy would be driving that taX1'
As he approaches the airfield he informs me that Ivan is stationed in Lackland Air
Base San Antonio Texas QAII Force of coursel I board the plane and wing my way
southwest into Texas Upon arr1v1ng in San Antonio I find Ivan at the air base and learn
that h1S wife the former Connie Wilson is working as a secretary in San Antonio I
talk over old times with them and then instruct my pilot to take me into the Everglade
State fFlor1da you knowj
I had heard that Betty Miers was living on a very large fruit ranch THE SUNBURNED
Blue Goose and Sunkist After v1ew1ng Betty's spac1ous ranch type home and exam1n1ng
their vast area covering ranch I set my destination as Iowa
I must stop in Nashville Tennessee though I have heard Dale on the radio many times
and I stop to pay him a v1s1t Dale Kerr has been producing competition for Lltfle Jlm
my Dickens on the Grand Ole Opry Dale and his wife are so k1nd as to drive me to the
plane F1y1ng into Chicago I purchase a train ticket for Fort Madison Iowa Here I
secure my Cadillac which has been wa1t1ng in a garage for me
I r1de along enjoying the beaut ful scenery of southeast Iowa and real1ze that I am close
to Cantril Iowa Surely I know someone there' In a f1eld along the highway I notice a
tractor with a very cheerful driver steering it Yes' I guessed r1ght' That was the for
mer Wanda Hunter As I pass the mailbox Inot1ce the nameplate Mr and Mrs Terry
Harris I V1S1t with Wanda for a little while and move on as I must see everyone
The road repa1r crews have been repairing the highway Therefore I must take a
detour on a mud road I see a car bur1ed in the mud Three little barefoot boys are
meandering along the road toward a big farmhouse I stop to give my assistance and to
my surpr1se find Leland Jackson Completmg the conversation with Leland his wife
and the family I venture on my trip
S1nce it is time for d1nner and my car wants some food I stop at a restaurant and f1ll1ng
station along the road I immediately recogn1ze the station attendant as Bob Boyd Bob
is there ready to f1ll our stomachs He 1S owner of the restaurant under the name
SLIPPERY JOE'S After a n1ce V1S1t with Bob I resume my travel for by the t1me I reach
home lt will be bed time
