1 devoted to the period since 1892, fthe date of the beginning of formally
organized high school workl, may not divert attention and credit from the
very praiseworthy work of teachers and pupils before that time.
Dr. Thomas W. Nadal, President of Drury College, in writing of those
cl rys says:
. 3' , .W
D .
Replying to your request for a word about the lVl1lroy school be
fore the formal organization of the high school will say that my exper
:ence ended with the spring of 1891 as l entered DePauw the fall of
that year
My first teacher at lVl1lroy was lVlr ll B Wilson who was Prln
cipal of the chools at that time lVlr Wilson was one of the best lnstruc
tors l ever knew H was particularly strong in English l think l learn
ed more grammar under Boss Wilson as he wis famlliarly known
than under any other teacher l have ever hid
l'he next Principal after lVlr Wilson was W F Barr Mr Barr
was an able and eithusiastic school man He did a great deal for the
lVl1lrcy scl ools and was an inspiration to many ol us who were eager for
ady xrced trainmf lVlr Barr is now Dean of the Q hool of bducation
in Drake Lniversity Des N oincs Iowa i see him frequently
ln my day the lVl1lroy school gave just two years of high school
work When l went to DePauw l had to make up two years in the prepar
atory department before l could enter Qollege This will give you an Idea
of the progress that has been made since l was a student in lVl1lroy It has
been a source of Great pride to some of us of the former days to see the
development there l'as been in the lsome school and to know that vou
are now a first class commissioned high school whose students may enter
the best colleges and universities of the country.
"Heres wishing the lVlilroy public schools continued success.
