FOUNDERS WEEKEND Founders Weekend is a time to recognize those whose foresight and persistence have led to the growth, maturity, and excel- lence we know as Millsaps College. This year, Founders Weekend recognized the Millsaps Singers, who celebrate their 50th anniversary in 1985. The weekend began Friday with the Friday Forum in which Dr. Samuel Jones, professor at Rice University, and a group of Millsaps alumni presented a program dealing with the trends in contem- porary classical music. Friday night President and Mrs. George Harmon hosted a reception to honor former members of Singers. The reception was held at the president ' s home. Saturday morning events began with a Troubadour concert, directed by Dr. Timothy Coker. The Founders luncheon was held at noon and was the highlight of the weekend ' s ac- tivities. The luncheon was a time to reflect on the heritage of the college and those people who have contributed to its suc- cess. Also during the luncheon, the Distin- guished Professor Award was presented as was the Alumnus of the Year award. The weekend concluded with a memorial ser- vice during which flowers were placed at the mausoleum of Major Reuben Webster Millsaps, the founder of the college.
