The principle of free public schools education was first recognized by the
General Court of the Massachusetts Colony in 1642. This General Court de-
clared that each school should provide teachers for the children.
The Constitution of the Republic of Texas, adopted March 2., 1836, declared,
"It shall be the duty of Congress to provide by law a general system of edu-
cation," From this grew the public school system of Texas.
Education of the masses through these schools which are public schools has
been the bulwark of the liberties of the people and the national freedom of the
country. We must nurture our public school systems, without which Democracy
will wither and die, for it cannot live without learning the knowledge by its
citizens.

The hope for a peaceful world lies in you, the teenager. Your problems are to learn
the fundamentals of life and master your undertakings so that our nation will be strong at
home and abroad.
Build your character around such traits as honesty, loyalty, and cooperation. Success
will be yours .
Today, more than ever before, the foundation of our lives should be education. For
if our Way of life is to continue, we must be able to cope with theincreasinglycritical
problems of our American society.
Education is the most effective tool in dealing intelligently with these problems. The
strong citizen is the well-informed individualg the uninformed is a prey for every enemy
of our way of life.
atic rinciples and ideals, will find
A government suchas ours, based upon democr p
no better way for growth than through education.

In sports we endeavor to develop physical fitness,
alert minds, cooperation, and sportsmanship.
We appreciate the good work done by the girls of
the l953-53 basketball squad. The girls have work-
ed hard and have played the game well. We especially
appreciate the girls who so patiently stood by
and played so little. We hope the girls of this
squad have been an inspiration to those who are
planning to follow in this sport.
We offer our thanks and appreciation to the school
patrons of Millsap, and to the girls who lplay
basketball for their fine attitude and sportsman-
ship throughout the years. We look forward each
year to one of the greatest events in the state.

TRIBUTE TO THE BULLDOGS
The Bulldogs are to be commended on their efforts during the 1952-53 season.
They have given our school the reputation of being a school with a competitive
spirit and a never yielding desire to Win.
Finishing third in the district, the Bulldogs were considered strong contenders
for the district title until the very last week of the season when they lost a hard
fought game to Brock.
The high light of the season was their victory over a strong quintet from Lipan
a team that won its district with ease.
The season ended with eighteen U81 victories and thirteen 1131 losses. The
Bulldogs scored a total of 1560 points to their opponents 1417.
