SENIOR CLASS HISTORY
Back in 1935 as all the little kiddies began their
formal education they had many doubts and wonders
,as to what the outcome would be. Of all the boys
and girls who started to school that year forty-
five of them have come this far in their education.
As we overcame each of the trials and tribulations
there have been many who let these obstacles over-
come them and as a result have dropped from our
ranks.
We have twelve members of our class who started to
school here at Millington in the first grade. They
are Hugh Coleman, Gene Craig, Paul Poston, Virgil
Sigler, John Sparks, Marie Burns, Donna Ruth Chamb-
ers, Mary Emma Delashmit, Virginia Hall,Marjorine
Longmire, Jean Oates, and Macy Yarbrough. Also
that year Frances Rhodes joined the class. In the
second grade Marjorie Mauldin became a member of
the class. Mary Alice Sanders and Lois Shepard
joined this group in the fourth grade. Three new
members were welcomed in the fifth grade: Howard s
Wilder, Martha Owen and Martha Jane Rast. Jean
Carlisle joined the class in the seventh grade and
also that year David Branch became a member. It was
in the ninth grade that our class was doubled in
size with students coming from Jeter and Frayser.
There are ten students who started to Frayser to-
gether in the first grade under the direction of
Miss Sarah Robinson. They are Johnnie Coscia,
Amelio Guasco, Roy Henderson, Marcus Ivie, Hershel
Perkins, Dorothy Coscia, Nell Gillespie, Naomi King,
Josephine Laguzzi and Sybil Norton. In the third
grade Crutcher Jordan joined this class. Those who
came from Jeter are Robert Escue, John D. Rast, Sue
Betty Gary, Frances Pickle and Nannie Jean Sigler.
In the tenth grade our new members were Evon Melton,
Billy Reed, and Audrie Bailey. Clifford Meyers,
Josephine Sanders and Zila Rowe, joined the class in
the eleventh grade. The new students in the Senior
year were Martha Tompkins and Cathleen Whitlock. There
are two members of our class who are already serving
in the Armed Forces - Gene Sanders and Heba Terry.
Others will be soon. '

freshmen we took part in all the activities with
great enthusiasm. That year our boys' basketball
team won the championship of the Class Tournament.
Never before nor since has the freshman class been
victorious. We were very proud of Gene Sanders

Star Team in

the County Tournament. About twelve of our freshm
girls participated in a State-Wide Latin Tournament
at Memphis State College with a good showing. Also
that year we were proud of our beautiful Halloween
Queen, Dorothy Coscia.
It was in our sophomore year that we were lucky
enough to be able to have Mrs. Williams as our spon-
sor. We consider ourselves fortunate in having her
faithful guidance these other two years.
The most important event in the eleventh grade was
that night when our class entertained
the Seniors
with the annual Junior and Senior Prom. We were
proud of that entertainment and believe it was a
success. Our girls' basketball team won the class
tournament by defeating the Senior class.
All of the accomplishments and activities in our
Senior year can not be listed here, but we shall
mention a few.
This year our candidate for queen, Virginia Hall
triumphed over the others and received the crown
of Halloween Queen. Both our boys' and girls'
tournament.We
were given an excellent entertainment by the Juniors
and it was deeply appreciated by all of us.

PROPHECY
Since the beginning of time, many people have
prophesied many things. Some of these prophecies
have been very accurate, others have been far off
from what really happened. Whether this prophecy
will be placed in the first or the latter of these,
only time will tell.
As the veil of the unknown future lifts, we see
Sybil Norton starring in the glamorous galaxy which
is the Skating Vanities. Watch for the year of l9M8
Now we see an ivy covered college and gymna-
sium. Entering, we find none other than the famous
Johnnie Coscia surrounded by girls in gym suits. He
is really showing them how to play ...... Basketball??
A signboard comes into view. On it, we notice
a picture of Jean Oates. That bathing suit certain-
ly looks good, but after all .......... naturally.
The curtain lifts on none other than Hutt's
Cafe. Inside is Paul Poston in his new job of Head
Waiter. Betty makes a good assistant, too.
The scenes whirl by and now we recognize New
York City. We end up at the exclusive 21 Club. En-
tertaining is Zila Rowe with one of the large Name
Bands of the country, '
The year is 1989 .... . ..... An old woman sits '
glued to her television set. Why it's Virginia Hall
listening to Frank Sinatra!
Dorothy Coscia marches before us in a train of
events. She seems to be successful in many things.
From this we can only interpret that she will follow
many vocations and be a success in all.
Moving upstate to Vassar, we see a classroom
just filled with girls. Professor Virgil Sigler is
now explaining Einstein's Theory of Relativity to
them. .
A political contest for the Governorship of
Tennessee we view with interest. David Branch seems
PROPHECY loom 'Dy
to be one of the candidates. The curtain falls
when we ask the result, however.
A great Pure Oil Station is our next scene.
Gene Craig makes an nup and goingn manager, too.
A huge, expensive office is next in line for
attention. On the door is written Crutcher Jordan,
President, Laziness Inc. Upon entering, we see Mr.
Jordan hard at work, sleeping with his feet on the
desk.
The screen shows us a vine covered church in a
beautiful setting. The month is June and inside
the Church is virtually covered with flowers. Down
the aisles to the tune of the Wedding March walk
Robert Stewart and Nell Gillespie.
Marching before us is a soldier bedecked with
medals galore. As he comes closer we recognize
Billy Reed, home from the wars, covered with honor.
A very familiar sight is shown. The Ag build-
ing in all its unmistakable glory is the subject.-
Inside we see Miss Robinson still teaching tap
dancing with Jean Carlisle as her able assistant.
The populous village of Benjestown moves into
sight. Robert Escue invites us into his house and
casually announces that he has just been elected
Mayor of this teeming metropolis.
An Exclusive Ladies' Dress Shop in Memphis
comes into view. Head Buyer, Naomi King, is in-
structing some of the sales girls in the proper
sales technique of some garments she just brought
back from a Paris buying tour. '
We board a large plane and settle back into
seats. Stewardess Josephine Sanders is making
everyone comfortable for the trip.
we traverse to Millington Central High School
and see Mary Emma Delashmit in the fine new Home

A large dairy farm comes to our attention.
We
ask to be shown around and find to our surprise that
it belongs to Roy Henderson who is now president of
the Henderson Dairy Farms, Inc.
A girls' basketball game is in progress at an
eastern college. Martha Owen is guarding the very
life out of her opponent. How do we know her? fShe
falls now and thenll
We see a large advertisement. As we read it,
we discover that it invites us to the annual show
ing of toe-dancing Deluxe given by Lois Shepard.
x
The next scene shows a large swimming pool. A
race is
in progress and we seem to recognize some
thing familiar about one of the contestants. She
comes in first and is given a large trophy. Why,
it's Josephine Laguzzi, swimming champion of the
United States, who has just broken another record

A beautiful country church casts its spire in
the Sunday morning light and Clifford Meyers is de-
livering his message to the congregation.
A young lady walks by into her office. The
door reads: Marjorie Mauldin............President,

Journeying to Mississippi, we come to a pic- -
turesque old plantation. Howard Wilder walks out
and greets us with typical southern hospitality.
The next scene shows a young lad in Navy Blue
......Herschel Perkins looks mighty fine in that
uniform. 1
What is this????? Why it's none other than the
Herring Hill Flash, John D. Rast, up at bat playing
in the World Series of 1957.
Macy Yarbrough marches before us just as she
usually does. All those admiring boys are certain-
ly following her closely., .
An airplane appears and flys lower and lower
and finally lands. Who should step out but Donna
Ruth Chambers, the Amelia Earhart of her day.
A fashion show is in progress as this scene-
comes into view. Out walks Audrie Bailey modeling
an expensive gown straight from Fifth Avenue.
Changing scenery drastically, we view Shakerag

A Hollywood producer's office is next in line
for attention. Inside Paramount's best producer, Sue
Betty Gary is working onkanother academy award.
Nannie Jean we see as Secretary of Treasury in
1971. You see she had acquired experience in mak-
ing out her
1945 Income Tax Return, so she is well
qualified. This would undoubtedly be an improvement
over the present lady in the cabinet.
A circus tent is seem and Cathleen Whitlock,
star trapeeze artist is performing.
The year is l945.4..........We enter the exclus-
ive Flower Shop de la Marie. Marie Burns is surround
ed by orchids, gardenias, carnations, camellias and

l A court is seen, Criminal Lawyer Hugh Coleman
is fighting hard to win another case.
Going way up to the Cold North, we see a huge
buzzing factory. Going in we find a young man work-
ing diligently over lots of advertisements. He, ,
looks up and we recognize Marcus Ivie. when we ask
what factory it is he looks up and proudly announces
that it is the Ford Motor Company.
In conclusion, I may say that even if some of
these prophecies fail to come true it is not my
fault, because I only related what I saw in the
future.
